Meh. My impression of Chaney is based on a defense I once heard him give of bringing in basketball players who did not meet the school's scholastic requirements. He tried the "opportunity for poor young men that they'd never get" crapola while failing to mention was that these men, who would need to spend more time on their schoolwork than the other students so they could catch up, would have to fit in a schedule of practices and and games first. It was as steaming, self-serving pile of tripe. Want to give opportunities to lower achievers? Put programs in place to help a broad range of people catch up and enter the mainstream student population, not just those with athletic skills. And don't add a burdensome schedule on top of their studies.

Conrad Janis, 94, best known as Mindy's dad on Mork and Mindy:

Conrad Janis, the longtime television, film and stage actor who was best known for his work Mork & Mindy, has died. He was 94.

Janis, who portrayed the role of Mindy's father, Fred McConnell, on the ABC sitcom, died on March 1, his business manager, Dean A. Avedon, confirms in a statement to PEOPLE.

The star died due to organ failure from old age, according to Avedon. His death comes six months after his wife, Maria Grimm, died in September.

"Conrad and his wife Maria were clients of mine for over 35 years. They were two of the nicest, respectful, and generous people I know," Avedon says in a statement. "I have many fond memories of Conrad telling me stories from his past. He was an amazing man that led a truly amazing life."

Born on Feb. 11, 1928, to parents Harriet and Sidney, who was a legendary Manhattan art dealer and gallery owner, the actor was just 17 years old when he was credited for his first on-screen role as Ronald Stevens in the 1945 film, Snafu, according to his IMDb page.

Over the next two decades, his career took off as he made appearances in multiple films and television series, including Suspense, The Jeffersons and Happy Days, before landing the role of Fred McConnell in Mork & Mindy.

On the ABC sitcom, which ran from 1978 to 1982 and also starred Robin Williams and Pam Dawber, Janis played the role of Mindy's overprotective father.

Generations of children knew Emilio Delgado as Sesame Street's fix-it shop owner, Luis Rodriguez. This week, Delgado died at age 81, having been diagnosed with a form of blood cancer two years ago. He played Luis for 44 years, starting in 1971. The Sesame Street Workshop noted in a release that his was the longest running role for a Mexican American actor in a TV series.

Delgado was the coordinator of the Sesame Workshop's Bilingual Talk Force, helping to add bilingual content to the beloved children's show. As the first human character in the Muppet world, he introduced young audiences to Spanish words and Latino culture. Along with the Sesame Street puppets, Luis often played his guitar and sang in English and Spanish about being happy.

Back before the Big Lie, before the days of examining ballots for bamboo particles, or dreams of liberal voting machines with minds of their own, or nonexistent discarded ballots clogging up our waterways, we witnessed what seems to be an episode of bona fide, dirty, orchestrated election fraud.

It was 2018: The golden age of America when men were men and one of those men was McCrae Dowless, a political operative in North Carolina hired by a Republican candidate for the House of Representatives due to his uncanny knack for winning lots of absentee votes. In this context, “lots” meant North Korea numbers.

Dowless, suspected of ballot tampering in three different elections, died Sunday morning. He leaves behind accusations that he was at the center of a fraud scheme so significant that an election was tossed, adding one rare but real data point to a rightwing fantasy that voter fraud is so vast and effective that it swung a whole nationwide election to President Joe Biden. That Dowless worked on behalf of Republican candidates will likely fade from memory long before the stench of corruption emanating from that fiasco dissipates.

Before he died, Dowless was facing a sticky web of interrelated legal troubles. He was to appear in court this summer on a slew of state charges related to alleged absentee ballot fraud in the 2016 general election, the 2018 primaries and the 2018 general election. He was also indicted for allegedly defrauding the Social Security Administration, charges tangentially connected to his political work.

The COVID-19 pandemic and his deteriorating health postponed the legal proceedings.

More on Orrin Hatch's "legacy" where he used the filibuster to block bills for racial equality, blocked bills for labor reform, and was the nation's leading shill for the vitamin industry. Yes, he worked with Ted Kennedy on some good things but his legacy is filled with stains.
