My husband was driving to his office in Sacramento and yup, the "convoy" is here clogging up traffic. Those of us who work downtown just blocks from the Capitol Building are used to some congestion when various events happen on the grounds. City commuters are so used to congestion they wouldn't even notice. Block a road ? They know detours. I'm betting the majority of the people in traffic would say "there's a protest ?" I'm curious why they don't try that in rural areas. I'm sure delaying a bunch of farmers trying to get their product out before it spoils would go over really well.

These f***ing dipshits want to take another swing at it. If they use their trucks in any illegal activity, like intentionally blockading streets, the trucks need to be impounded as property used to perpetrate a crime. Welcome to the wonderful world of civil forfeiture.

As if we didn't see it coming. I have bolded some of the "standard" results of fund raising.
The MAGA Trucker Convoy Has Imploded. Again.
It was, by all accounts, a big dumb mess, and the Hagerstown Speedway General Manager Lisa Plessinger was none too pleased with all the drama. She decided to pull the plug on everything, according to the Hagerstown Herald-Mail.
"I'm not a babysitter,” she told the Herald-Mail after the hubbub. "I didn't sign up for that so when they got to act like a bunch of kids it was time for them to go home. Just like with any unruly child, you only put up with so many temper tantrums before you say 'enough’ and put them in time out. So that's what I did."
In response to their surprise eviction, the convoy's leaders bizarrely declared “victory” and hastily announced “the conclusion to the national convoy portion of this great movement.” Then, they quickly distanced themselves from the folks they brought to Hagerstown.
The convoy has raised millions of dollars—most of which, according to the Washington Post has been spent—for the organizers, drivers, and many supporters who had uprooted their lives at considerable financial and personal costs. On Friday irate supporters specifically demanded to know where their $15,000 rent check to the speedway went. The cops and the general manager told them it had never been paid.
The convoy’s website is now down, and the group's telegram page has taken a distinctive edge against the former leaders. The mood among the supporters remains apoplectic with followers making accusations of theft and people wanting to band together against those they used to follow.
“As people that drove around the country and raised money for them to pay, they lied to us,” one popular streamer said about the organizers. “Our job is now to expose them and press charges against them.”

This is worthy of going into the political humor section because its soooo freakin`stupid. Once again, the Onion staff was caught sleeping Spoiler: It was ANTIFA. Trucker Convoy Enraged After Being Tricked Out Of 100 Foot Subway SubThe remainder of the trucker convoy faced another setback as they were promised a 100-foot-long Subway sub only to find out that it was a hoax. After driving in circles, peeing themselves, and getting lost, the Freedom Convoy disbanded, and what was left of them rebranded as the 1776 Restoration Movement. The bladder-challenged truckers are in Bunker Hill, WV, where they tried to hold a rally. At the rally, a trucker claimed that the pandemic was really about the government trafficking children. (Yep, the last people left at the trucker party are Qanon).
These folks were very upset that there was no hundred-foot Subway sub, which, being that there are only 20 people, would have been five feet of sub per person. Most of the Freedom Convoy got tired of protesting the high price of gas by driving in circles and wasting gas, so they went home. There was no 100-foot-sub. I t was just another Antifa plot to trick the truckers into not bringing their own lunch.

Seems totally appropriate that they are in West Virginia.

What were the odds ? ' A money grab from the very beginning': Questions raised over $1.8 million donated to the People's ConvoyIn a report on the aftermath of the so-called "People's Convoy" comprised of a smattering of truckers and their supporters unhappy with a variety of policies under President Joe Biden, several participants -- and organizers -- are questioning where exactly the reported $1.8 million donated to the cause went while at the same time trashing the protest as both a "money grab" and a "circus."
<SNIP> " More than $1.8 million was collected through the convoy’s fundraising platform, the American Foundation for Civil Liberties and Freedoms (AFCLF). What happened to the money that was supposedly collected over the four days preceding the official May 20 disbanding, which some participants and live streamers claim totaled around $15,000, remains a mystery," the report states. "Since the convoy was evicted from the speedway, organizers, supporters and rival trucking advocacy groups have taken to TikTok, YouTube and conservative social media channels to speculate about what happened to the money." Questions about the money have focused on organizer Marcus Sommers, "who rode in the organization’s command center’s RV but didn’t drive his own rig during the 87-day event." www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/a-money-grab-from-the-very-beginning-questions-raised-over-1-8-million-donated-to-the-people-s-convoy/ar-AAY8Xiu?bk=1&ocid=msedgntp&cvid=100fe370d795498e8e0054d6d6f8b863(My guess: ANTIFA took the money.)

But you and I know it was all taken by someone who was on the Convoy's "side." Like the build the wall grifters, they start with some project based on ideology or grievance and then make money from it!

One of the things I remind my friends is to make sure the money you're sending actually gets to the cause/person you want it to go to. For the Ukrainian charity I sent the money to the Convent of Saint Basil the Great run by Ukrainian Sisters. I saw their efforts and I'm sure the money/goods etc are going to get there with a minimum of administrative costs. The bracelets are nice, but I'm sure they only give a few cents to the cause.

Andy, no truer words could be said. I learned that lesson awhile ago, when I became a PR person for a HUGE veterans "charity Biggest in our country", only to learn that most of their money is spent on promotion. Far too many of even the biggest charities on Earth use at the least, 40% donated to get more interest and pay salaries to those who get them more interest- and those are the most legit ones. Now, for me this thread has been sort of a 'giggle". I say "sort of", since people like these infantile so-called "truckers" do nothing less than prevent others from getting to-and-fro. It's disgusting. It's a serious point you make.

It takes money to make money. It's just as true in charity as it is in business. The charities that spring up in response to an event might do ok for a while when interest and passions are high, but a charity that is trying to address a long term need will have to have staff that exists to promote the cause and raise the money. People forget and lose interest...oh yeah foster kids again? The problem is never fixed and compassion fatigue sets in. I wouldn't worry so much about pg's situation as I would about the type of charity like the one Bannon and other grifters were in paying themselves big bucks and some charities that basically exist to employ family members of the founder.

We’re in the Baltimore area to attend our nephew’s delayed 2020 wedding reception. Had to navigate the beltway on Friday and Saturday.
Friday: rush hour was expected to be yutzy and it was. Coming back only half yutzy.
Saturday afternoon semi yutzy. Just busy and a few slow areas.
Bottom line: no one would have noticed a “slowdown”
PS: I think if they wanted bigger impact they should have done it in Texas. Then again bullet damaged truck tires are expensive.

With my typical luck, on the Virginia-to-Jersey leg of my recent travels, I hit I-70/I-695 right at afternoon rush hour. Yes, it was just as yutzy as it sounds; I concur that any sort of “planned slowdown” likely would have passed without notice. FTR, from my childhood recollections of that trek, it was no less yutzy, and no less torn up, a half-century ago. Hope the reception went well.
