Christmas lights going up soon. Point to ponder:
Brits and Americans have hundreds of different phrases for the same thing. Luckily, it's usually a source of amusement rather than frustration. A flashlight by any other name is still a torch. My personal favourite is 'fairy lights,' which we boringly refer to as 'Christmas lights.'

Went to the "purveyors of healing waters" for gifts to give my fellow alumni over the weekend. I was reminded of a literary gem from college:
Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.

Our string of sunny and warm days will be ending Thursday with rain here and snow in the mountains.
The perfect weather of Indian Summer lengthened and lingered, warm sunny days were followed by brisk nights with Halloween a presentiment in the air.

Really crappy driving weather last night: rain and road mist coupled with idiots doing 70.
For every "Drive Safely" sign, shouldn't there be a "Resume Normal Driving" sign ?
