On Thursday, as part of his new announcement of federal vaccine mandates, President Joe Biden took particular aim at COVID deniers attacking flight attendants for enforcing mask mandates, ordering the Federal Aviation Administration to double fines for unruly passengers — and demanding people "show some respect" for flight crews.

This remark provoked an angry reaction from Fox News' Jeanine Pirro, a former judge in New York and firebrand right-wing commentator.

"He's going after Abbott and DeSantis, and then he's saying... you know what, show some respect for the flight attendants," said Pirro. "Maybe some of the flight attendants ought to show some respect to us, okay? If you're trying to feed a two-year-old yogurt without a mask on and they decide to throw the mother off, I mean I could go on and on about the absurdity of people who don't have power, who are suddenly engaged and have power, and then they abuse it."

The Co-Dependency of Destruction is that RW media's business model requires grievance and rage. They can't survive otherwise. These days, they have almost no legitimate policy discussions to pontificate on or promote a dialogue. And Republicans who want to be in office have no choice but to parrot their nonsense to get through a GOP primary, even if they detest it. Bravery has left the party, with some rare exceptions.

Since the GOP has jettisoned their allegiance to democracy, decency, and the greater good of the country, they can do untold damage to the US, as any student of authoritarian history can point out. A kidnapper who is willing to kill the hostage, or die trying, usually has the upper hand.

“Fox and Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade ran straight to racism on Monday morning as he expressed outrage over President Joe Biden’s broad COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

Zeroing in on Biden’s warning last week that “our patience is wearing thin” with those who refuse to get vaccinated, Kilmeade complained that the President hadn’t criticized the lag in vaccination rates among Black Americans.

“Why doesn’t the President call out African-Americans who put him in office and yell at them to get the shot?” the Fox anchor asked.

Kilmeade isn’t the first conservative to invoke racist “whataboutism” regarding Black people and the vaccine amid well–documented vaccine hesitancy among Republicans (who are four times more likely to be unvaccinated than Black Americans).

As he was falsely accusing Black people of having the highest COVID-19 case rate last month, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) claimed that because Black people tend to vote for Democrats, “it’s up to the Democrats to get […] as many people vaccinated.”

And Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) blamed low vaccination rates on “a very large African American population” in his state in April.

During a Sunday appearance on right-wing provocateur Dave Rubin’s podcast, Carlson took aim at his rivals on CNN over what he claimed was their habit of telling falsehoods on the air. (The segment was first flagged by Media Matters, a liberal watchdog and Carlson nemesis.)

“How do you think they live with themselves at this point when they just lie again and again and we have the internet to expose the lies?” Rubin asked, adding: “We can expose it now and they still do it.”

The far-right primetime star insisted that unlike other cable news personalities, who “systematically lie,” he claimed, Carlson tries to refrain from lying himself—but will do it if he feels trapped.

“Well, it’s—I guess I would ask myself, like, I mean I lie if I’m really cornered or something,” Carlson said. “I lie. I really try not to. I try never to lie on TV. I just don’t—I don’t like lying. I certainly do it, you know, out of weakness or whatever.”

While Carlson presented his lying as a human “weakness” he works to combat, his network’s own lawyers have successfully argued in court that no “reasonable viewer” should actually believe the words coming out of his mouth on-air.

Just over the past year, of course, Carlson has peddled such obvious falsehoods as claiming the COVID-19 vaccines don’t work, the Green New Deal was responsible for Texas’ winter storm power-grid failure, immigrants are making the Potomac River “dirtier and dirtier,” and that there’s no evidence that white supremacists played a role in the violent Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

During the same Rubin segment, Carlson argued that mainstream media outlets “protect and guard the powerful” while using their influence to put its “boot on the neck of the weakest people.” The Fox host insisted that while he may have done it in the past, he no longer uses his top-rated show to target less powerful figures.

Faux News is getting Piers Morgan. Is that like getting a habanero enema?

The bad news is that Piers Morgan is returning to U.S. TV screens. The worse news is that it’s part of a new mega-deal with Rupert Murdoch.

In a press release Thursday, Murdoch’s News Corps announced that Morgan will front a “global TV show” airing in the U.S. as well as Britain and Australia. As part of the deal, Morgan has also been handed weekly columns in Murdoch newspapers the New York Post and British tabloid The Sun, and he’ll write a book under News Corp’s HarperCollins.

It will be Morgan’s first TV job since he stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain in March, then resigned, following heavy criticism over crass remarks he made about Meghan Markle’s mental health struggles. It will be his first return to U.S. TV since his CNN talk show, Piers Morgan Live, was cancelled in 2014 due to underwhelming ratings.

The new weeknight show will air on talkTV in Britain—a freshly announced Murdoch-owned news network set to start broadcasting next year—as well as the Fox News subscription streaming service Fox Nation.

Morgan said in a statement: “I’m thrilled to be returning to News Corp which is where I began my media career more than 30 years ago. Rupert Murdoch has been a constant and fearless champion of free speech and we are going to be building something new and very exciting together.”

Digging into the stats with PRRI, Sargent discovered that among the Americans who most trust Fox News or other right-wing extremist outlets, 76 percent think the election was stolen. Only 21 percent of Americans who don't watch Fox or other such outlets only believed the lie.

Along with that number is the revelation that Fox News viewers now believe that former President Donald Trump's supporters were not responsible for the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. A shocking 64 percent of viewers blame liberal or left-wing activists for the insurrection.

"In short, right-wing media widely sowed the lies that inspired the effort to violently overthrow U.S. democracy," wrote Sargent. "They then retroactively papered over what had happened, by suggesting in numerous ways that there might have been some legitimacy undergirding that effort's goals."

Essentially, the right-wing media personalities inspired the violent attempt to overthrow the U.S. government and then tried to pretend that anti-fascists were to blame, he explained.

A CNN reporter tells it like it is.

On Thursday, CNN reporter John Avlon alleged that former President Donald Trump was suffering from mental decline — using the words of Trump's own associates.

"There is something known as the Goldwater Rule that bars diagnosis of a candidate or president's mental health by professionals or otherwise," said Avlon. "Armchair diagnosis can be dangerous and misleading, because it often reflects the partisan bias of the self-appointed analysts. But that doesn't mean we should ignore the evidence provided by the people closest to the president. Like his former chief of staff who called Trump 'unhinged.' A 'moron' according to his secretary of state. His chief strategist reportedly compared him to an '11-year-old child who lost a step.' A 'madman' according to a former communications director. An 'idiot surrounded by clowns' according to his chief economic adviser. This is a very few examples."

All of this is in contrast, Avlon noted, to right-wing media's efforts to paint President Joe Biden as cognitively incapable of the job, for which he turned to LexisNexis data.

"Fox News described Biden as 'senile' 47 times over the past two years, invoked 'cognitive decline' 48 times, raised the specter of 'dementia' 22 times, and used the euphemism 'confused' 157 times," said Avlon. "So much for the Goldwater Rule. This isn't subtle, and these are just some of the phrases that could be picked to make the same point."

"What is striking is how Trump's hardcore supporters believe they know their man better than the people who actually know him. They seem willing to follow him past facts to the point of idolatry," said Avlon. But, he added, "all the whataboutism in the world cannot deflect from the fact Donald Trump tried to overturn an election, tried to destroy our democracy just to soothe his own fragile wounded ego. And the reason isn't just awful history, it's that he seems to be his party's frontrunner in the next election, and that's why this can't be ignored. And that's your reality check."

“The point of mandatory vaccination is to identify the sincere Christians in the ranks, the freethinkers, the men with high testosterone levels, and anyone else who does not love Joe Biden and make them leave immediately,” Carlson claimed. “It’s a takeover of the U.S. military.”

Carlson called the mandates “a new political purity test.”

This from a guy who works for a company that comes pretty close to mandating vaccines in their employees.

To be fair Faux News has been incredibly effective at making people leave who are sincere Christians, freethinkers, and anyone who loves Joe Biden. High testosterone levels? That's a tough one. Those sticking around, like Carlson, could just have really bad cases of micropenis syndrome. In fact I suspect that was the case for Ailes, O'Reilly, and a pile of other creepers.

RUDY GETS THE GONG — RUDY GIULIANI has been banned from Fox News for almost three months. As if the sting of that weren’t painful enough, the “9/11 mayor” learned of his banishment … on the eve of Sept. 11.

Giuliani was slated to appear on “Fox & Friends” to mark the 20th anniversary of the attack. But the night before, host PETE HEGSETH called Giuliani to say he’d been cut from the show and apologize.

The ban extends not just to GIULIANI, but also to his son ANDREW, who has not been on Fox News since he launched his campaign for governor of New York in May despite many requests to go on the network. His team has been frustrated that rival GOP gubernatorial candidate Rep. LEE ZELDIN is a frequent guest.

But bookers have told both Giulianis the ban comes from the top, sources said. The former New York City mayor had been a fixture on the network.

“Rudy is really hurt because he did a big favor for RUPERT [MURDOCH],” a source close to Giuliani said. “He was instrumental in getting Fox on Time Warner so it could be watched in New York City.” In 1996, Giuliani’s administration advocated for Time Warner to carry the newly launched Fox News Channel, intervening in a dispute between Murdoch and the cable provider.

Dominion Voting Systems has separately sued Giuliani and Fox News for allegedly defaming the company with false election claims — in the case of Fox, for allowing guests like Giuliani to make the claims on its network. Fox News has filed to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that Dominion failed to show the network acted in malice, the legal standard for proving defamation. Giuliani has argued his claims about Dominion were “substantially true,” while acknowledging he didn’t understand how the company’s voting software works, according to Business Insider.

In a 2018 FBI deposition that became public last month, Giuliani admitted he would push lies about HILLARY CLINTON on Fox News, referring to it as “throwing a fake.”

Giuliani’s former police commissioner, BERNIE KERIK, who also promoted election conspiracies, has had difficulty getting time on Fox after being a regular on the network. He appeared live on the network just once on Sept. 11 — on JESSE WATTERS’ show — despite being a critical player in the aftermath of the attacks. Kerik wrote a letter to Fox Business Network President LAUREN PETTERSON to complain, according to a source familiar with the matter.

A Fox News source said that Kerik was also booked for “Fox & Friends” on Sept. 11 but canceled because of logistical issues. The network declined to comment on Giuliani’s status with the network.

“I could not have been more disappointed with the Fox coverage on the 20th anniversary of September 11,” Kerik said in a statement to Playbook. “Then they chose to intentionally ignore Mayor Giuliani who was, and who according to their own coverage for the last two decades was America’s hero on the day and in the aftermath of the attack. Regardless of reasoning, I think this was another demonstration of Fox’s cowering to the far left.”

It’s not just Giuliani. Senior Trump aides have found it difficult to get bookings on Fox News or even coverage of stories that are damaging to their enemies or positive for Trump.

“They’re not doing us any favors,” sniffed one Trump aide.

When you lie for money you have to protect yourself against avenues shutting down those lies.

Former Fox Business host John Stossel is suing Facebook, alleging that the social media company and one of its contracted fact-checking organizations defamed him when it flagged two of his videos, alerting viewers to “missing context” and “partly false” claims.

The lawsuit also claims that Stossel’s professional reputation has been “significantly and irreparably damaged by the false labels and statements.”

Since Stossel left Fox Business, he’s been releasing videos on various social platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. The endeavor has apparently been somewhat lucrative—he has made around $10,000 a month from Facebook alone. “My news model is based on social media companies showing you videos,” he said on YouTube.

But when Facebook’s fact-checking label appeared on two videos, Stossel alleges that his ad revenue from the platform was cut by approximately 45 percent.

In the videos, Stossel, and others appearing alongside him, cast doubt on the severity of climate change. In one video, titled Are We All Doomed?, Stossel replays excerpts from a panel discussion he moderated for The Heartland Institute, which has received funding from fossil fuel companies and groups opposed to regulations on greenhouse gases. The panel consisted of three climate skeptics—meteorologist Patrick Michaels, geographer David Legates, and astrophysicist Willie Soon—who proceeded to question whether anthropogenic climate change is causing sea level rise or increasing the power of hurricanes.

Fox Business anchor Cheryl Casone on Tuesday hyperbolically claimed that Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) was “assaulted” when a fellow passenger asked the senator about her support for DACA during a flight this week.

Casone claimed she was “shocked by that video,” wondering aloud why flight attendants or even the Federal Aviation Administration didn’t step in to prevent the senator from being calmly approached and questioned by a fellow traveler.

As one of two Democratic senators refusing to fully support President Joe Biden’s ambitious Build Back Better agenda, Sinema has recently been confronted by activists and constituents for her opposition to the spending bill. In a video posted on Sunday, for instance, youth organizers filmed themselves following Sinema into a public restroom, sparking backlash and mild condemnation from Biden himself.

During a flight this week, meanwhile, a DACA recipient from Arizona walked up to Sinema and asked the lawmaker if she would make a commitment to support a “pathway to citizenship” for DREAMers such as herself. “This is my life and the life of millions,” the woman said as Sinema refused to engage or respond.
