To quote the classic commercial, Thanks, I needed that.  While Dave has been in south Flor-i-duh for decades, he started at my local newspaper in PA before the Herald (and KnightRidder) lured him away. I've met him twice, including a random run-in at the nearby Burger King. He's got a very unique comic style that can be hilarious. |

A shepherd was herding his flock in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of the dust cloud towards him. The driver, a young man in a Broni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and a brand new MBA leaned out the window and asked the shepherd, "If I tell you exactly how many sheep you have in your flock, will you give me one?"
The shepherd looked at the man, then looked at his peacefully grazing flock and calmly answered, "Sure."
The MBA know-it-all parked his car, whipped out his notebook and connected it to a cell phone, then surfed to a NASA page on the internet where he called up a GPS satellite navigation system, scanned the area, and then opened up a database and an Excel spreadsheet with complex formulas. He sent an email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, received a response. Finally, he printed out a 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized printer then turned to the shepherd and said, "You have exactly 1586 sheep."
"That is correct, take any one of the sheep you like," said the shepherd. He watched the young man select one of the animals and bundle it into his car.
Then the shepherd said, " If I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my sheep?"
"OK, why not," answered the young man.
"Clearly, you are a management consultant," said the shepherd.
"That's correct," said the MBA grad, "but how did you guess that?"
"No guessing required," answered the shepherd. "You turned up here although nobody called you. You want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked, and you know fuck all about my business. Now give me back my dog."

The movie reference is from 1967 and the TV show reference from 1965-1968. That's about 55 years ago. If rather than going forward 55 years from '67 you go back 55 years that's 1912. The first commercially made talking picture was The Jazz Singer and it was released in 1927. Time flies. |

I knew I was getting old when a young Private mentioned he was born in 1970 and I commented my watch (a Rolex) was older than him. Got it in 1967 as a HS graduation gift.
