Gaetz is a buffoon doing a stand up comedian routine (a bad one) while in office.  Stefanik is one that I find far more objectionable because she actually has a brain and could make solid contributions.  Instead, she appears to have decided that she can be a star in the non buffoon, but still without integrity, segment of the Republican Party.  She and Nikki Haley are two of a kind in this regard.

Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) on Wednesday was charged with driving with a revoked license after being pulled over last week by highway patrol.

According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, Cleveland County highway patrol spokesperson Sgt. Marcus Bathea said Cawthorn was pulled over March 3. In addition to facing a misdemeanor that carries up to 20 days in jail, the GOP congressman also faces two pending citations for speeding in other counties in North Carolina.

Bathea told the Citizen-Times that Cawthorn was pulled over last Thursday near Shelby, North Carolina when a trooper saw a 2019 Toyota Truck cross the center line of the road.

“The driver was identified as David Madison Cawthorn, 26 years old of Hendersonville, N.C.,” Bathea told the Citizen-Times. “During the course of the investigation it was determined that the driver’s license was in a state of revocation and he was subsequently charged with driving while license revoked.”

According to the citation obtained by the Citizen-Times, the weather was clear and traffic was light. Cawthorn was reportedly “very polite and cooperative.”

Cawthorn’s latest speeding incident marks his third in the past several months.

I feel sorry for him because he's been pumped up by people who will dump him.  Once the "hey here's a nice looking white dude in a wheel chair speaking applause lines" wears off they'll dump him. Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii and 2020 presidential dark horse candidate, has long perplexed U.S. officials and observers with her seemingly inexplicable pro-Russian positions. And a new development this week is sure to reinforce the half-jokes that Gabbard is a “Russian asset”; as it turns out, her campaign took money from one.

That agent—dual Russian-American national Elena Branson, also known as Elena Chernykh—stands accused of illegally pushing pro-Russia policies in the United States for nearly a decade, at the direction of top Kremlin officials, without registering under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), according to a criminal complaint federal prosecutors filed this week in the Southern District of New York.

But, in all her time lobbying for Russian goals, she gave money to just one federal candidate: Gabbard.

According to Federal Election Commission records, an Elena Branson made two donations in 2019 to Gabbard’s presidential campaign. The filings tie the donation to Branson’s former address at a million-dollar condo on Central Park West. However, the merchant banker listed her occupation as “not employed.” (Branson lived in the United States for decades and holds American citizenship, so the contributions were legal.)

While the combined total of those donations isn’t colossal by any means—a whopping $59.95—they do raise questions about why an alleged Russian agent, tasked with currying favor with U.S. politicians, would zero in on Gabbard, and only Gabbard.

According to a Justice Department press release, Branson, who fled the United States last year and remains at large, had ties to top Kremlin brass, and “corresponded with Putin himself.”

“At the direction of the Russian government, she led a years long campaign to identify the next generation of American leaders, cultivate information channels, and shape US policy in favor of Russian objectives,” FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge Michael J. Driscoll said in the press release.

Of course, Gabbard is a longtime favorite of the Russian propaganda machine. She hired an alleged Russian agent on her campaign, and her Putin-backing has struck officials and political observers as well out of the norm for years—perhaps most famously her support for Russian intervention in Syria while defending dictator Bashar al-Assad.

That strange pattern continued even after Gabbard left office in 2021. This year, as Putin prepared to invade Ukraine, Gabbard parroted Russian talking points, urging the Biden Administration to guarantee that Ukraine will never join NATO—a longtime Kremlin demand.

This is a twofer because Clarence and Ginni Thomas are quite likely the most corrupt power couple in D.C.

Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, admitted that she attended the Jan. 6 “Stop the Steal” rally that preceded the deadly Capitol insurrection — but only until she “got cold and left early,” Thomas told the Washington Free Beacon in a report published Monday.

Speaking to the Beacon, Thomas claimed that she was in the rally crowd for a “short time” the morning of Jan. 6, but went home before Trump took the stage at noon that day. Thomas, in her words, said her presence at the Ellipse that morning was the extent of her activity.

Her self-defensive concern trolling is nauseating.

“I was disappointed and frustrated that there was violence that happened following a peaceful gathering of Trump supporters on the Ellipse on Jan. 6,” Thomas told the Beacon. “There are important and legitimate substantive questions about achieving goals like electoral integrity, racial equality, and political accountability that a democratic system like ours needs to be able to discuss and debate rationally in the political square. I fear we are losing that ability.”

Yes, Ginni, there are questions about those things. And you get paid to fight against any and all rational debate on this and so many other things so why don't you take a big old plate of STFU and get off the stage. Former long-shot presidential candidate and congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii is just the latest U.S. politician to seize on debunked, Kremlin-backed conspiracy theories about the supposed existence of U.S.-run bioweapon research labs in Ukraine.

But she’s the first high-profile Democrat to do so.

What started as an InfoWars talking point has been embraced by the Russian and Chinese state media and has morphed in recent days into a full blown right-wing effort to place the blame for President Putin’s deadly war on Ukraine squarely on the shoulders of the U.S. right’s usual cast of enemies, including President Biden and, of course, Anthony Fauci. Kate Riga digs into the madness here.

The capsule version of the story so far is this: The right-wing fever swamps in the U.S. have seized on the existence of run-of-the-mill research facilities in Ukraine as the real reason for Putin’s invasion, claiming the U.S. — and Fauci himself! — has been backing the work being done in these laboratories in order to create some sort of new infectious disease bioweapon. (The whole thing rhymes with the fixation on the Wuhan lab’s role in the COVID-19 pandemic.) There is no evidence that the U.S. is funding any bioweapon research in Ukraine’s labs, but the Kremlin has eagerly trumpeted it as a post hoc rationalization for it’s war. U.S. officials have also been warning that this rhetoric is being pushed by the Kremlin as a pretext for potential future biological and chemical attacks on Ukrainians.

In a video posted to Twitter Sunday, Gabbard claimed there are more than two dozen of these bioweapon labs in Ukraine that, if attacked by the Russians, could release “deadly pathogens” in the country that will spread across the globe. It appears she might have been referencing a statement from the World Health Organization this week calling on Ukraine to destroy any “pathogens” in the labs — i.e. any research being conducted in the facilities to help mitigate public health threats, like the spread of COVID-19 — that could pose a threat if the research facilities were bombed by the Russians.

New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns’ upcoming book about the 2020 election and Biden’s first year in office has some new maverick-y details about Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), who is a Maverick.

• “I love Andy Biggs,” Sinema reportedly said at a GOP-heavy private fundraiser, referring to the Arizona congressman who, to this day, still refuses to acknowledge Biden won his state in the 2020 election. “I know some people think he’s crazy, but that’s just because they don’t know him.”

    ◦ But the thing about that is, Biggs’ own brothers say he helped fuel the Capitol attack, lied about the election and should be kicked out of office.
