Oz's turn to try to moonwalk away from The Big Lie just in time for the general election.

Yet another election denier on the campaign trail has reversed his position as the general elections inch closer. TV personality-turned-Senate hopeful Mehmet Oz announced that he doesn’t actually think the 2020 election was illegitimate, despite courting true believers in the past.

Oz has been running to represent Pennsylvania in the Senate against Democrat John Fetterman, partially through an online tete-a-tete using Internet memes (to varying effect). The Republican nominee has also been winking at denying the results of the 2020 election to curry favor with Trump supporters, while trying not to alienate swing voters at the same time.

At a Pennsylvania Senate debate back in April, he said that “we cannot move on” from the election, and that it was a “tragedy” that Republican voters in the state should have to question the results.

He also gave a noncommittal response when asked directly whether he believed the election was stolen on Fox News earlier this month. “There’s lots more information we have to gather in order to determine that and I’d be very desirous of gathering some,” he said.

He’s notably refused to clarify his beliefs on the topic—that is, until Wednesday.

According to the new book from New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, Trump’s support of the fellow celebrity has been calculated from the start: He once told his advisers that he needs people like Oz in office in case the 2024 election is challenged or Congress tries to impeach him again.

Oz already hadn’t been very keen on accepting Trump’s endorsement throughout his campaign, but on Wednesday he finally decided to fess up.

“Doctor Oz has made it clear that he would have voted to certify the results of the 2020 election, and that he’ll accept the results of the 2022 election,” Oz spokeswoman Brittany Yanick told a Politico reporter when asked for comment.

It’s not just Oz. As we inch closer towards the general election, several election deniers who launched their political careers on the back of the Big Lie have similarly reversed their stances on the 2020 election.

The scandal of House candidate J.R. Majewski's military service in the Air Force continues. Here's a quick list if you aren't familiar with him.

• He said he served in Afghanistan. He served in Qatar.
  
• He claimed to be a combat veteran. He loaded planes.
  
• He was arrested for drunk driving on a U.S. base in Japan.
• He wasn't ejected but the military chose not to offer him the option to reenlist.
  

Now he was busted for improperly using the the US Air Force logo on his campaign website. (It was taken down after he was called on it.)

As was pointed out a scandal or two ago, all he had to say was that he served in the Air Force and had been deployed to Qatar. That's completely honorable. Instead he felt the need to make it a major prop in his campaign, embellish the shit out of it, and practically beg the press to look into it. What a tool.

To repeat something said often, their morality is transactional. That cuts way wider across the entire Republican Party than just the Evangelicals. Say what you will about Dana Loesch, at least she was honest when she said she doesn't care and all she wants to win. THAT is a Republican "family value." In fact it's THE Republican family value.

GOP Machine Flocks Behind Walker

With barely a month left before the midterms, Republicans seemingly have little choice but to stick by GOP Georgia Senate nominee Herschel Walker as their man even after an ex-girlfriend came forward with literal receipts and a “get well soon” card revealing that the self-proclaimed anti-abortion candidate had paid for her to get an abortion (Walker has denied her claims).

• National Republican Senatorial Committee chair Rick Scott (R-FL) declared on Tuesday that the Senate campaign arm stands with Walker, and he accused Democrats of targeting the ex-NFL star with a “smear machine.”

• GOP chair Ronna McDaniel claimed it was all just “character assassination.”

• Trump also (unsurprisingly) came to Walker’s defense on Tuesday.

• And of course, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich:

• Meanwhile, Walker’s 23-year-old son, Christian Walker, continued to drag his father on social media on Tuesday:

• Walker’s campaign and power brokers in Georgia had known about the abortion for months, Politico reports. They were reportedly just hoping it would never come out.

And now it comes out that the woman whose abortion Herschel paid for is likely the mother of one his children. There was a time I would say that Republicans and especially their Evangelical base are twisting themselves into pretzels to avoid standing up for their supposed principles but I've learned that this is actually quite effortless for them.

Walker's defense keeps getting more and more awful.

Confronted by the new details, Walker initially repeated his denial, saying, “I know this is untrue, and they keep telling me things like that, and it’s totally, totally untrue. And I’m not sure why that would be told. I know nothing about any woman having an abortion, and they can keep coming at me like that.”

“And they’re doing it because they want to distract people,” he continued. “I know that, because I’ve already been forgiven. And if I’ve been forgiven, why in the world would I not be forgiven of something like that?”

That line about forgiveness seemed to catch the host off-guard and he quickly jumped in with an obvious question: “Is there anything you need to be forgiven for vis-à-vis a woman whose name we do not know? Do you know who this woman is? And do you need to be forgiven?”

Walker said he was referring to being “forgiven” for “all the things” he did with his ex-wife, apparently referring to the threats against her life and alleged domestic violence.

“I wasn’t perfect. I had my problem with mental health,” Walker continued. “I hate to say I’ve been born again, but I have a new life and I’ve been moving forward.”

Then came the most unexpected statement from the supposedly “pro-life” candidate. “If that had happened, I would have said, you know, nothing to be ashamed of there,” he said of paying for the woman’s abortion. “You know, people have done that, but I know nothing about it. And if I knew about it, I would be honest and talk about it, but I know nothing about that.”

While not an admission of guilt, Walker’s statement did amount to an acknowledgement that there is “nothing to be ashamed of” when it comes to abortion, a medical procedure that both he and many prominent members of his political party equate with murder.

According to Republican candidate for governor Tudor Dixon, the property of a retired Lansing couple who supports former President Donald Trump was vandalized by “Antifa,” which allegedly scrawled messages like “TRUMP NAZI SCUM,” “GOP TERRORIST,” and “ANTIFA REVENGE” on their vehicles and driveway in red and white spray paint.

“A retired couple in Lansing had their cars and property vandalized by the tolerant people of ANTIFA because the couple supports President Trump,” Dixon wrote on Twitter. “Another example of the radical left’s ‘fight like hell’ tactics, courtesy of Gretchen Whitmer.”

Dixon provided no source for her claims. According to a story from WLNS-TV published after Dixon’s posts, Lansing police are investigating the incident, which allegedly occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday morning on the 2800 block of Lasalle Gardens on Lansing’s east side.

CNN reported on Friday that the (now former) political director, Taylor Crowe, was fired on Wednesday, the same day the Daily Beast dropped its second bombshell report revealing that the ex-girlfriend who had come forward about the abortion was the mother of one of Walker’s four known children.

The Walker campaign reportedly suspected Crowe of leaking to the press. It’s not clear what exactly he was suspected of leaking and if there were other reasons for his ouster.

Republicans really are just fundamentally truth challenged. They are WAY past the old caricature of the lying politician and well into saying anything they wish whenever they think it's advantageous.

First, Don Bolduc, the Republican nominee for Senate in New Hampshire, said he was pretty sure the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump.

“I signed a letter with 120 other generals and admirals saying that Donald Trump won the election and, damn it, I stand by [it],” Bolduc, a retired Army brigadier general, said at a debate in August. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.

Then, in September, thanks in no small part to his election stance and support from the Trump wing of the GOP, Bolduc narrowly won the Republican primary.

Just two days later, Bolduc was walking back his position on whether he thought the 2020 election was stolen.

“I’ve done a lot of research on this, and I’ve spent the past couple of weeks talking to Granite Staters all over the state from every party, and I have come to the conclusion – and I want to be definitive on this – the election was not stolen,” he said on Fox News.

Which, wow! Pretty remarkable turnaround!

Then, the latest turn in this story came on Monday at a town hall event.

“I can’t say that it was stolen or not,” Bolduc said, according to the AP, in response to a question from a voter about the 2020 election. “I don’t have enough information.”

But what about the research he had conducted? You know, where he talked to all sorts of people in New Hampshire and came to the conclusion – less than a month ago! – that the election wasn’t stolen?

I think it's more a case of he doesn't care. The Overton Window has shifted so far that they don't seem to pay a price for streaming "alternative facts" and statements of expedience.
