Texass again. They really do seem hell bent on murdering children. Oh, the Delta variant is infecting, sickening, and killing more children? BFD! There's an election to steal in 2022!

In a case of "we didn't see this coming" (because we're stupid) a new development: Texas Gov. Abbott seeks out-of-state help against COVID-19
Gov. Greg Abbott appealed for out-of-state help to fight the third wave of COVID-19 in Texas while two more of the state’s largest school districts announced mask mandates in defiance of the governor. Abbott’s request Monday came as a county-owned hospital in Houston raised tents to accommodate their COVID-19 overflow. Private hospitals in the county already were requiring their staff to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. Meantime, the Dallas and Austin school districts announced Monday that they would require students and staff to wear face masks. The Houston school district already announced a mask mandate for its students and staff later this week if its board approves. apnews.com/article/business-health-education-coronavirus-pandemic-368eb9eb57b1d3b1a473d4414c42a522

Josh Marshall notes that getting data on vaccination status vs. severe infection by age group can be frustratingly difficult but there is some decent data out of Israel. The upshot? Get your f***ing vaccination, moron.
The whole thing is short and worth the read but these charts tell a pretty obvious story if you're not an idiot.

Apparently there are some court challenges. Be nice if some judge (or judges) decided the welfare of the people was more important than the governor's ego. The responsibility of ensuring people's welfare does not rest with the judges. Turn towards the executive. And, then the people.

Ron DeSantis is a sociopath. I'm convinced that he does not feel a twinge of remorse over the children he's harming and will be murdering. The politics of blocking school mask mandates is so important to him that he's trying to attack administrators' salaries if they disobey his imperial order.
But like any good Republican he has no problem putting his hand out and taking from the federal gov't he claims he wants to leave him alone. Now he's begging for 300 ventilators as his states' cases skyrocket.
Gee, what a shock. Florida's health department, I'm sure controlled by DeSantis flunkies, is producing lower numbers. These would be the same flunkies who tried to imprison somebody for exposing the real numbers before.
This is beyond selfish or political. He's mentally damaged. He's the face of evil. That's not a word I use lightly but anybody who could do this is evil. I don't care how nice he is to his wife, kids, or dog.

This is why help from judges may be all that can be hoped for. I agree that it shouldn't be that way.

The reported COVID death toll in Florida (which I'd wager is lower than actual) is greater than sociopath Ron DeSantis's margin of victory. Is it any wonder Republicans are in a full-out push to rig America's elections? The bodies mean nothing to him.

Sturgis is on, with an expected crowd of 700,000, and Kristi Noem is preening over the super spreader event.
I hate to say this to you doc but she is exposed. In fact she's campaigning on that exposure. How said is that?

Poor Andy. Whatever he says now will always sound like straight journalism. Which has been true for months — or even years. If he decides, like Tom Lehrer, to retire he should get a megaprestigious gong. Which American award would be appropriate?

One can only hope. Seriously. Any wonder I am giving serious thought to leaving here? I’m not making this statement lightly—just a couple of years ago I fully anticipated living out my days in this area. The sociopaths seem to have taken over, not only in the governor’s chair, but also to a significant degree in other branches that affect this area (state House & Senate, US Congress, US Senate, and there are knocks on the door of local government as well).

Sen. Josh Hawley has been keeping his head down, maybe because his full-throated embrace of insurrection against the government of the United States isn't playing so well, but now he's back. Now he's following DeSantis's lead in advocating for the sickening and killing of children to aid his political fortunes. Interestingly this flies in the face of how Teddy Roosevelt fought against smallpox.
Remember, this guy is major self-professed "Christian." So much for pro-life.

Here's a piece on Sturgis. They're going to sicken and kill a lot of people around the nation. I wish it was just limited to them. I'd have no problem with them killing themselves.

I find myself screaming "FUCK YOU, just FUCK YOU!!!" at various news accounts daily.
Flori-DUH -- the sociopaths rule, and it's not even funny anymore.ETA 6:30 PM: Chem PhD put on ABC News just now -- nothing like your local hospital as a significant part of the lead story.

It really hasn't been funny for a long time. It's good to see some courts and school districts resisting but it's a shame they need to.
DiSantis really is a child; he says he didn't request more ventilators from the federal government, Florida's Department of Health did. He didn't authorize that or know about it. He doesn't say their request was unauthorized in law. Pretty clearly the worst governor in the country and that's a high bar to clear.

So 99% of these people going to the hospital for COVID now are not vaccinated which basically means they don't trust the medical establishment. On the other hand, when they get it they run to that same medical establishment which is now compelled to offer them sub standard care because of their own mistrust.
Honestly, I'm ok with just wheeling them to the parking lot and leaving them there.

Franklin is a fairly upper middle to upper income suburb of Nashville. I don't understand the anger there or anywhere else over a mask. Were these parents this upset over the school requirements that students have DPT, measles, etc vaccinations?

Blackburn latest to accuse Dems of wanting 'permanent pandemic'
Awesome. The party that refuses to wear masks, social distance, and is brimming with anti-vaxxer cranks is screeching that the Democrats want a "permanent pandemic." It's so beyond just stupid.
