You can't have fascism without a good old fashioned culture war, something the right is perfecting every day as they charge forward with their cancel culture tactics.

This piece has a review of Trump's false defense of the Jan. 6 Republican Insurrection and puts the transparently ridiculous into perspective. Nobody is expecting other than the most gullible to buy that Jan. 6 wasn't a violent insurrection but reality doesn't matter, power does. It's scary.

If it wasn't clear earlier, it is now: Trump is a dangerous man.

Orange County used to be solidly Republican but is slowly becoming purple. The election of Katie Porter illustrates that. I hope she has real big body guards with her and she might consider a kevlar vest...people are nuts these days. What happened to Gabby Gifford may no longer be an unusual thing. (I never used to be so gloom and doom about this stuff.)

Sure people like Powell, Wood, and Giuliani may just be batshit nuts but there are people, I suspect quite a few, in the GOP who know exactly what they're doing. Like this guy.
Note bullet point #2. He was worried that they clown show could hurt their lying propaganda campaign.

Re: #2. The guy was right to worry about that...at least from a rational standpoint. But as things have turned out the absurdity hasn't deterred state legislatures from passing the election integrity laws or at least trying to.

I continue to be mad at David Frum but his latest in the Atlantic rings true to me.

Yes; he is a fascist and his supporters, whether they understand it or not, are fascists as well.

Yes; he is a fascist and his supporters, whether they understand it or not, are fascists as well. An old boss had a favorite saying: If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck… New version: If it spews lies like a fascist, declares a free press “the enemy” like a fascist, openly advocates violence for political ends like a fascist…

Not sure this is the right place to post, but:
Perhaps you've heard about TX Democrats from TX Leg. They bugged out, flew the scene, to stave off a quorum vote on consequential votes for various Republican bills related to voter suppression. They flew to DC to (hopefully) enlist the Congress and Senate for help.
Now? Threats have been made, gauntlets thrown down. Gov., and all the rest of Republicans in the TX Leg- not sure where it stands, but supposedly the whole lot of them are to be arrested upon entry back.
Goodness- a great tactic, but ARREST? Texas Tribune has the best info.

What specific crime have the TX Dems committed that they can be arrested?

Read this whole piece and realize that William McSwain, apparently running to be governor of PA, was a U.S. Attorney under Trump. When you put fascist pigs like this in positions of power you are actively destroying democracy. The first part is about Barr (yes, that Barr) bashing his sycophancy and then we have this.
"As a Marine infantry officer" you were also trained to uphold the Constitution, protect American democracy, and act with honesty, integrity, and honor. Clearly none of those took.

They were elected as Democrats. You left out: Operating a Jewish space laser over Texas airspace. Harvesting Adrenochrome from Texas children without a state business license Worshipping Satan Firearm violations (failure to open carry at all times) Voting Under the Influence of the Fake News Media Failure to yield right-of-way to white male Republicans Any of these criminal acts should land someone at the Huntsville Unit

Any of these criminal acts should land someone at the Huntsville Unit Not just Huntsville but anywhere in Alabama would be a severe punishment. (Or did I misunderstand the meaning of "Huntsville Unit?")

(Or did I misunderstand the meaning of "Huntsville Unit?") That's the Tex-ass corrections center for capital punishment. They have a Texas Prison museum nearby, where you can see their retired electric chair. I'm rather amazed that Abbott hasn't pushed to re-instate it, with the claim that lethal injection is "too good" for those criminals. I'm waiting for a lot of GOP-controlled states to pass legislation for burning at the stake, disembowelling, beheading, and quartering. Hanging can be preserved for treasonous criminals like Mike Pence.

Here is part of how Fascism can come to America...the devotion of people to a leader that resembles a Dead Head following the Grateful Dead. From a book written by WSJ writer Michael Bender:
Stealing and vandalism is more serious than overthrowing the government?
The banality of evil.

Trump knew who these people were and how they would react and enjoyed watching it unfold. Maybe not provable in a court of law but he's guilty as hell.

As the concept of actual voting falls out of favor while grifting becomes the favored pastime of Republicans, we can see the youth of the party fully embraces it. The election being held by the College Republican National Committee this summer has been quite a thing to behold. Not at all surprising, mind you, but certainly interesting. You can read a summary of the details here and here and in-depth description, including various allegations of financial mismanagement here. Especially fun is how one chapter's national votes were rejected because they couldn't prove that no fraud was involved in their local election.

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
Alternatively,
"Monkey see; monkey do." Kids of a certain generation; parents of those same kids
I'm wondering whether this sort of thing was what the Evangelical culture warriors had in mind...
