Oh yeah I can't find it now but somewhere in the last week I read about '90's drinks making a comeback...Long Island Ice Tea, Blue Lagoons, Tequila Sunrise. I remember "Harvey Wallbangers" as being effective in getting your date "tipsy". Later, I found that Grand Marnier and Hot Cocoa was pretty good at that too. Baileys plus hot cocoa is the way to go.

Baileys plus hot cocoa is the way to go. One of my wife's favorites, especially with Caramel Bailey's. She also loves it in eggnog.

Yeah, I kinda get a “Why bother?” sense. I have that same sentiment about non-alcoholic beers, too.

Baileys plus hot cocoa is the way to go. At this point, I would like to do a plug for a couple of coffee/hot cocoa "enhancers" I've had good luck with: In lieu of Bailey's we've been purchasing "Saint Brendan's Irish Cream Liqueur". Not to be outdone, it comes in varied flavors like the more expensive Bailey's. We fortuitously "discovered" a product called "Sheelin Irish Cream". Its a wine product (13.9%) with natural flavors and caramel color added. I use for Irish Coffee since it has a pleasant taste. Almost more like a non dairy creamer.

I have a dilemma I hope the membership can help me with:
I recently purchased a bottle of "Tillen Farms Old Fashioned Syrup". The syrup is designed to eliminate the work of prepping the ingredients for an Old Fashioned and just mixing the appropriate amount of syrup with an equally appropriate amount of alcoholic beverage. Unfortunately, the bottle does not provide a recommended amount of syrup to use.
I don't want to be in a situation where the drink is too sweet. I always remember Jim Backus' statement in its a Mad (5) World:
"What can go wrong with an Old Fashioned ?"
I will accept any and all suggestions. Meantime, the old scientific "trial and error" method will be in use.

I know because in college I used up a bottle of Amaretto trying to make Amaretto Sours. Never did get it right.

Even Thomas Edison had his "problems": I will not say I failed 1000 times, I will say that I discovered there are 1000 ways that can cause failure

However, I came across a YouTube video using a different brand of syrup that had actual directions that said 1/4 oz. syrup and 2 oz. spirit, a 1:8 ratio. These syrups are pretty concentrated, I take it? If a quickie sampling of the syrup suggest it’s really concentrated, I’d start out with the lower proportion of syrup and work up if need be. You don’t want to have to trash good booze because the cocktail is utterly undrinkable.

Here's a recipe for a Maple Old Fashioned using the Tillens Farm syrup from the web:
Followed your advice and tried the recipe without the maple syrup. Worked well with the bourbon. I’m trying it tomorrow night with the Leopold Bros American Whiskey. Experimentation and testing is a demanding effort.

Followed your advice and tried the recipe without the maple syrup. Worked well with the bourbon. I’m trying it tomorrow night with the Lombard Bros American Whiskey. Experimentation and testing is a demanding effort. Lab test observation: Made the Old Fashioned using Leopold Brothers Whiskey. I omitted the Maple Syrup and made half the recipe. I can attest its not too sweet because you don't want an Old Fashioned that is too sweet. As a comment: if I want maple syrup I'll have some pancakes. Happy weekend all !!

As a comment: if I want maple syrup I'll have some pancakes. Generally agreed but one of my wife's favorite fish recipes I've come up with consists of making a glaze out of maple syrup, a dash of Worcestshire, ultra-fine diced sauteed onion, and toasted pecans. It's killer on white fish like Black Sea Bass, Tautog, or Tilefish. I don't think it would work well with Bluefish or Yellowfin but it might work with Longfin Albacore.

A local purveyor of medicinal healing waters had a sale yesterday for single barrel Buffalo Trace Bourbon one bottle per customer. The store opened at 0900. At 0900 the line stretched halfway around the building. I think they were sold out by 1000. Needless to say, some people came late and got none. You can see the FB page with photos of the event. www.facebook.com/Exit9Wine/photos/pcb.10159595122196832/10159595118816832/

Of course, there's the famous story of Southwest Airlines and their daring CEO, Herb Kelleher.

Many of you know I'm retired from the Army. One of my assignments was in the 42nd Infantry (Rainbow) Division of the NY National Guard. One of the Division's units was the 69th. Its now a Battalion size unit and fiercely proud of their heritage. (Besides having a Movie with Jimmy Cagney and Pat O'Brien) It is the MOST decorated unit in the Army active or reserve. They have battle streamers from Gettysburg to Iraq. I was overjoyed when I saw this bottle in the local medicinal elixir store. Needless to say, I have purchased a bottle in anticipation of St Patrick's Day and my 300+ viewing of The Quiet Man. But Andy, aren't you Italian ? I married an Irish redhead. More information and mail order forms at the web site, Slainte Mhait ! fighting69thwhiskey.com/welcome

My mother was quite the movie buff and told me that John Wayne loved doing physical comedy with Maureen O'Hara. With her size and strength he wasn't afraid of hurting her.

I'm following the advice of Pres Pierce: In 1856, after he lost his bid for the Democratic nomination for President, and it was after this that a reporter is said to have asked him what he would do after leaving office. Pierce is quoted as saying "There's nothing left but to get drunk!"

I'm following the advice of Pres Pierce:
I'll go with Senator Blutarski. After all, he's pre-med.

Despite its name and advertising, Stolichnaya Vodka is actually made in Riga, Latvia. Latvia is a country that doesn’t have a high opinion of Russia to begin with
