Is it just me or are a lot of the images not showing up in this thread, like half of them on this page alone?

Is it just me or are a lot of the images not showing up in this thread, like half of them on this page alone? If you're looking at work and they block certain domains then they won't show up. For example I can't see anything from Facebook on my work laptop. I know some other images won't show unless you get a cookie when you go to their main page first. The problem with that is that you can't tell whether the image will display for others or not.

A little investigation shows that all the images I can't see originate from domain "scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net" which is a facebook related site from what I can determine. My browser is getting a 403 (forbidden) response from the site and since I have all sorts of tracker blocking stuff installed and no facebook account, I think I can assume facebook is pissed at me or something and won't serve up the content.
The text of the 403 response from the server is "URL signature expired" whatever that means.

Yes, definitely Facebook and you're likely somehow blocking the content. It serves up just fine on my home computer.

I have multiple issues across all the facebook platforms. I can't see much of anything on instagram either.

Me too neither on my work machine. Pinterest is blocked too. Ditto Google Drive and Dropbox.

You're so much the better off for it. For proper info-nourishment eliminate Facebook from one's info-diet. (I still resent not buying at $18 a few days after the IPO. The only thing worthwhile about Facebook is its stock performance.)

I tend to agree for news but I see Facebook as having helped me out in the area of my love of birds and dragonflies. I belong to multiple groups that cover birds and dragonflies by region which provide a lot of great information on what's happening as well as access to experts I would not have had otherwise. I also belong to groups that cover specialized groups of birds such as advanced ID of gulls in North America. The old list-servers kinda' did this but were definitely inferior.
I also like seeing family pics though I think I should probably get on Instagram for that.
And clearly AnBr uses it for humor postings!

Is it just me or are a lot of the images not showing up in this thread, like half of them on this page alone? When I put in a FB tracker blocker on my laptop, I noticed a bunch of the cartoon posts would not come through, but they would on my iPhone…or at least they did until the new iOS came out. So no, it’s not you (or me). Concur with LFC re FB—it’s useful for certain things (in my case, keeping up with a handful of old friends who have scattered everywhere and indulging my interest in landscape photography—mostly admiring the work of others). Yet it has become very much a cesspool of bullying, high-order bullshit, and conspiracy theories that does everything in its algorithmic power to keep users engaged 24/7/365.

Rule of Thumb: Keep your friend list short. My tip: use the three dots on the top right to block the SOURCE of the BS. If you want to go further you can go to the blocking section and block the actual web site or the person. I've gotten some of these down to maybe two posts a day that I get to see. Frustratingly, more of these sites pop up like mushrooms.
