Rule of Thumb: Keep your friend list short. My tip: use the three dots on the top right to block the SOURCE of the BS. If you want to go further you can go to the blocking section and block the actual web site or the person. I've gotten some of these down to maybe two posts a day that I get to see. Frustratingly, more of these sites pop up like mushrooms. I’ve done a fair amount of that. Frustratingly, the preferred method to share misinformation these days is to copy/paste the material, rather than “sharing”the BS from “User XYZ,” meaning I can’t “Block Content from User XYZ.” I’ve done a fair amount of “unfollowing” of the worst of the copy/pasters. The whacko pages do seem to sprout like mushrooms. |

Many of AnBr's posts don't show on my machine. Any idea why? Having finally finished the thread, I now know. No FB for me. Shame. Also miss many of AndyDP's posts. Is there a workaround for us plebeians?

I don't think so. It appears that many of the facebook related resources (i.e., things that are linked to on facebook servers) are available only to those who have a facebook account. There may in fact be further restrictions like to friends or feeds or whatever but since I've never used facebook I have no idea. Bottom line though is that for me the server simply refuses to serve up these images.
If somebody was curious, they could log out of facebook on their computer, clear facebook cookies, then try seeing if the images still show up for them in this forum. I can't do this since, again, no facebook account.
One of the annoying things about this board is that pasting images doesn't work. There is some sort of attachment functionality but the limit to the number of attachments appears ludicrously low. Google says you can manage this limit somehow but it seems to be a feature they charge for. As the holder of the billing account only Bact can make this sort of change.

Perhaps too late at this point, but this is why I wish this had been hosted with a normal hosting service using the likes of phpBB or a Simple Machines Forums.It would have given a lot more flexibility in such matters. Plus I am very familiar with administering a phpBB board. InfinityFree has a free service with unlimited disk space and bandwidth with no force ads. Both phpBB and Simple Machines are OSS and free. Looks like the main thing that would require payment is registering a domain name, which for mine are around $10 a year. infinityfree.net/ |

Also, after some quick checking I found that ProBoards makes it impossible to export and convert to other forum software. They have even issued takedowns to people that have hosted converters. They effectively lock users into their product. Once you run into limitations the only option is to pay them for increased features and limits, live with the limitations/missing features or abandon your forum. I would never recommend ProBoards to anyone after looking into this.

I don't accept friend requests, only do my own friend requesting, though once I screwed up and asked an unknown person who had the same name as the person I meant to friend. It turned out ok though because the unknown person had the same volunteer interests I have. |
