Diébédo Francis Kéré: The first African to win architecture's top award

Burkino Faso-born architect, Diébédo Francis Kéré, has become the first African to win the prestigious Pritzker Prize, which is often referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture. His highly esteemed work, including permanent and temporary structures, has been erected in his country of birth, but also across Africa, Europe and the United States.

WOW! His use of light and space (even small) is his signature. Yeah, Coachella etc. But this is a man with an ultimate plan. Whether any of will ever know/experience it, space is at a premium all over the world. This man takes those small spaces, makes them personal and truly cozy, with dignity and peace. I hope he can teach others!

The world's skinniest skyscraper is ready for its first residents

The world's skinniest skyscraper has been completed, adding a new landmark to Manhattan's famous skyline.

Steinway Tower, or 111 West 57th Street, has a height-to-width ratio of 24:1, making it "the most slender skyscraper in the world," according to the developers. At 1,428 feet, it is also one of the tallest buildings in the Western hemisphere, falling short of two others in New York City: One World Trade Center at 1,776 feet and Central Park Tower at 1,550 feet.

The midtown Manhattan development includes 60 apartments spanning the tower's 84 stories and the adjacent Steinway Hall building.

The tower was designed by New York architecture firm SHoP Architects and built by JDS Development, Property Markets Group and Spruce Capital Partners, which began construction in 2013. Gregg Pasquarelli, principal at SHoP Architects, called the building "a project of extraordinary proportions and epic grandeur" in an email to CNN.

Steinway Tower is now opening its doors to new residents, but while the building's silhoutte is skinny, the prices certainly aren't, ranging from $7.75 million for a studio apartment to $66 million for the penthouse.

That thing is going to wave in the breeze.  I don't think I'd want to live or work in there.  Motion sickness would be a problem.

This is what Saudi Arabia's 100-mile long emission-free smart city could look like.

The Line

In 2021, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman revealed the country's plans to build The Line, a smart linear city that will be constructed vertically, have no roads or cars and run purely on renewable energy. Now, the Saudi government has released image renders of what The Line could look like once it's done. The city was designed to only be 200 meters (656 feet) wide, but 500 meters (1,640 feet) tall and 170 kilometers (105 miles) long. It will house multiple communities encased in a glass facade running along the coast and will eventually be able to accommodate up to 9 million residents.



The Line's designers envision a city wherein facilities are just a five-minute walk away from people and where residents can organically bump into each other as they go about their daily errands. While it will have no roads and won't be able to accommodate cars, it will have a high-speed rail for end-to-end transit that will take 20 minutes. It will also rely on a natural ventilation system to make sure residents enjoy the ideal climate all year round.

Interestingly enough, Stormy Daniels admitted to Sixty Minutes Australia in an interview that she now regrets putting that info in her book.  Not that it's untrue, or that Beetlejuice (my new nickname now) doesn't deserve all manner of public ridicule for other things.  But she now sees it as some body shaming, and she feels bad to have done that aspect to anyone.  I must say, I do admire her integrity.  BTW, the interview is on Youtube and is interesting to watch.
