Dear Daughter is especially bummed; Perry’s “Chandler Bing” was her fave character on “Friends.”

An affable comedic actor that went down the wrong path. I had no idea how young he was.

Such a long standing marriage. I suspect Mr Carter will follow her shortly. Sometimes it seems one of a long time couple sticks around to protect the other one...saw it with my husband's great aunt and uncle. He had dementia; she was older but mentally clear. Once he was gone, she died a few weeks later.

Once he was gone, she died a few weeks later. I was thinking the same.

I was a pre teen and early teen when his sitcoms were on the air. I always hated All in the Family because I thought Archie was unbearable and Edith was so put down by him. The one with the guy who kept saying "Dy no mite" made me squirm because even in my all white bread town I thought that was sooo stereotypical. Same thing with The Jeffersons because I thought George was played like a buffoon. I guess I didn't appreciate that these shows were on the air at all and that a white guy was lauded because he convinced CBS to put them on the air. I only saw these shows if I was at my grandparents house so I saw very little. My dad would never watch anything on CBS after Cronkite came out against the Vietnam War.

Although I did see the racism/sexism/husband bullying stereotypes, it was only with a look back that I truly appreciated the trailblazer Lear was. Goodness- "All In The Family" would have found a cold shoulder trying for air time later on when TV started whitewashing it all. This stuff existed in America. Overblown? Exaggerated? Sure. But I think pushing boundaries for attention to issues of the time was exactly the point.

Only 61 and more talent and skill in his little finger than many actors have. I would watch him in anything he appeared in even if it was just to read the phone book.

Hutch... David Soul. He was 80. His partner Starsky was the reason I spent every Wednesday night negotiating with my dad over control of tv watching.
