I don't think we should downplay the importance of that verdict. It was rendered by a mostly White jury, after the judge observed the prosecution had apparently excluded Blacks based on race (a constitutional no-no) in Georgia.

I misspoke; it was the defense that excluded Black jurors.

It seems the video shot by one of the defendants was the key...like the video of the cop kneeling on George Floyd.  The defense couldn't refute that and it made the self defense claim laughable.  The video certainly was the key to getting a prosecution going in the first place.

What is quite possible the most bizarre and insane looking Confederate monument in existence has finally been removed from the private property where it stood in all its glorious stupidity for years. I guess this statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest is really a monument to what you can expect when you go with low bid low talent but part of the cause.

Nashville’s notorious nightmare fuel has finally been put to bed. After more than two decades standing on private property, a monument to Confederate general and KKK leader Nathan Bedford Forrest that overlooks a Tennessee interstate was pulled down Tuesday morning. The statue, which looks like, if it could talk, it would beg you to put it out of its misery, squatted for years on the grounds owned by Bill Dorris. Dorris, who died just over a year ago, was most recently known for making headlines after leaving $5 million to his beloved pooch, Lulu. He also called slavery a form of “social security” for the Black community in 2016. The statue was sculpted by Jack Kershaw, another slavery apologist whom Dorris judged a “mediocre” artist. Widely mocked, Forrest’s statue was also occasionally shot at and vandalized, with one memorable 2017 incident leaving the KKK’s first Grand Wizard and his horse coated in pink paint. New Channel 5 reported that the statue will be held in storage, possibly to be put up for sale in the future.

After seeing that the crazy statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest came down I did a quick follow-up search on the bust of him in the Tennessee Capitol. It was removed less than two weeks after this post. BTW this explains why Tennessee has mounted the most hard-nosed defense of their racists memorials.

Brooks says when most people think of the Deep South, they think of places like Mississippi or Alabama but maybe not Tennessee. But she argues that when it comes to Confederate monuments and erecting policies to keep them there, the state stands out.

“Tennessee is particularly recalcitrant in their pushback,” Brooks says. “Back to Nathan Bedford Forrest — that’s a fight that would be lost in Alabama.”

That may be in part because of the presence of the Sons of Confederate Veterans here, she says. The group, which was founded in 1896, was influential in reframing the Civil War and erecting monuments to the Confederacy.

“Most people think that, ‘Oh my gosh these monuments went up in the immediate aftermath of the Civil War to honor the war dead,’ and that’s not true,” she says.

Instead, she says the statues were a reaction to Black progress.

Trump continues with his anti-semitism that you know the MAGAts love.

Former President Donald Trump continued his long-running tradition of anti-Semitic statements in a recent interview, saying that Jews have historically controlled Congress.

Trump made the comments while lamenting that, in the present day, “the Evangelical Christians love Israel more than the Jews in this country.”

“It used to be that Israel had absolute power over Congress, and today I think it’s the exact opposite, and I think Obama and Biden did that,” Trump said.

He noted that Barack Obama and Joe Biden get “a lot” of votes from American Jews — which Trump said told him “the Jewish people in the United States either don’t like Israel, or don’t care about Israel.”

The comments came in an interview with the journalist Barak Ravid and were aired on the Unholy podcast.

The remarks line up with classic anti-Semitic tropes about Jews manipulating American politics, and American Jews having dual loyalties to both the United States and Israel.

Trump, of course, kept going. He referred to “the Jewish people who run the New York Times” — referring to the Sulzberger family — and said the Times “hates Israel.”

Institute is representative of Black communities across the country that bear a disproportionate health burden from industrial pollution. On average, the level of cancer risk from industrial air pollution in majority-Black census tracts is more than double that of majority-white tracts, according to an analysis by ProPublica, which examined five years of emissions data. That finding builds on decades of evidence demonstrating that pollution is segregated, with residents of so-called fence-line communities — neighborhoods that border industrial plants — breathing dirtier air than people in more affluent communities farther away from facilities.

The disparity, experts say, stems from a variety of structural imbalances, including racist real estate practices like redlining and decades of land use and zoning decisions made by elected officials, government regulators and corporate executives living outside these communities. That means that these areas, many of which are low-income, also lack the access that wealthier areas have to critical resources, like health care and education, and face poorer economic prospects.

All of the concentrated industrial activity in these so-called “sacrifice zones” doesn’t just sicken the residents who happen to live nearby. It can also cause property values to plummet, trapping neighborhoods in a vicious cycle of disinvestment. In Institute, for example, West Virginia State, starved of state funding for years, has struggled to expand and recruit students. The school is now suing Dow Chemical, the plant’s owner, and arguing that contaminated groundwater beneath the campus inhibits the school’s development plans and harms its national reputation. Dow has sought to dismiss the case, and an appeals court is considering whether the matter belongs in state or federal court.

Many of the 1,000 hot spots of cancer-causing air identified by ProPublica are located in the South, which is home to more than half of America’s Black population. “None of this is an accident,” said Monica Unseld, a public health expert and environmental justice advocate in Louisville, Kentucky. “It is sustained by policymakers. It still goes back to we Black people are not seen as fully human.”

For nearly 10 years, Joseph Moore lived a secret double life.

At times the U.S. Army veteran donned a white robe and hood as a hitman for the Ku Klux Klan in North Florida. He attended clandestine meetings and participated in cross burnings. He even helped plan the murder of a Black man.

However, Moore wore something else during his years in the klan – a wire for the FBI. He recorded his conversations with his fellow klansmen, sometimes even captured video, and shared what he learned with federal agents trying to crack down on white supremacists in Florida law enforcement.

The married father of four would help the federal government foil at least two murder plots, according to court records from the criminal trial for two of the klansmen. He was also an active informant when the FBI exposed klan members working as law enforcement officers in Florida at the city, county and state levels.

"From where I sat, with the intelligence laid out, I can tell you that none of these agencies have any control over any of it. It is more prevalent and consequential than any of them are willing to admit."

The FBI first asked Moore to infiltrate a klan group called the United Northern and Southern Knights of the KKK in rural north Florida in 2007. At klan gatherings, Moore noted license plate numbers and other identifying information of suspected law enforcement officers who were members.

Moore said he noted connections between the hate group and law enforcement in Florida and Georgia. He said he came across dozens of police officers, prison guards, sheriff deputies and other law enforcement officers who were involved with the klan and outlaw motorcycle clubs.

Homeschooling that teaches white supremacy as part of the curriculum. How ... Republican.

The School of the West, a recently launched online “educational resource for homeschooling parents,” offers a smattering of materials—some free, some only for paying members—to help teach kids standard subjects like math, science, and language arts. But its key selling point is a unique and deeply disturbing field of study that the site has dubbed “White Wellbeing.”

A write-up on the contents of an upcoming three-month live-streamed white wellbeing course, advertised for students ages four and older, explains that it will help children “understand the gift of being born a member of Westernkind and the qualities that separate us from the other races.” In case it wasn’t clear, the write-up later clarifies that “the White race is known as Westernkind.” It also promises to teach them how to spot and respond to the “anti-white propaganda” that supposedly suffuses modern life, why white people are the only true citizens of Western nations, and how “feminism destroys the family unit,” the supposed backbone of all Westernkind, “thus weakening our societies.”

This blatant white-nationalist ideology is infused into some of the site’s lessons on conventional subjects, as well. Its history materials, for example, falsely teach that the notion European colonization led to the spread of new diseases that decimated indigenous populations is not established historical fact, but an anti-white myth. The School also links to the Institute for Historical Review, as a “reliable online source for the study of history.” The IHR notoriously publishes materials that push for Holocaust denial and antisemitic readings of history, using the language and formatting of conventional academia, but none of its rigor. And the School’s life sciences materials are just a series of seven videos and attendant worksheets on the supposed science of human racial differences, which deliver a series of thoroughly debunked pseudoscientific arguments as if they were hard facts.

As if to underscore its focus on white-nationalist indoctrination, one video on the site even tells children that, in the face of a supposedly virulently anti-white culture, “it’s important to do your schoolwork, but it’s even more important to feel good about yourself and your own people.”

Oh, and an ad for the site floating around the dark corners of the internet opens with pictures of all-white communities and schools in the mid-20th century, then juxtaposes them with images of diverse classrooms and clips of Black kids hitting white kids, among other racial fear-baiting imagery. Towards the end of the ad, text pops up that reads “Enough. Reclaim Your Destiny.” It then shows a copy of White Fragility—the pop explainer on systemic and often unconscious racism—burning over coals.

This isn't some punk in high school, this is a 45-year old ... man-baby ... who feels more "manly" by lashing out at fifth graders. And he probably wonders why so many people look down on him.

A 45-year-old Kentucky man is accused of crashing a Louisiana school’s virtual class and hurling a racial slur at Black fifth-graders before threatening to lynch them. In documents filed in a New Orleans federal court, prosecutors said Brian Adams “Zoom-bombed” students from the Laureate Academy Charter School in Harvey and declared, “You all are a bunch of dirty n—-s,” according to Nola.com. Adams allegedly went on to tell the class—which was made up of mostly Black students—“I am gonna hang you by the tree.” A recording of the incident is said to have shown students crying and covering their eyes. Video of the “Zoom-bombing” was reportedly also found on a YouTube page depicting Google searches for swastikas. Adams has not been charged with a crime but is under investigation for interference with federally protected activities and threatening interstate communications.

Donald Trump didn't create him but he gave him permission to let his bigotry fly and attack children.

Rhode Island State Rep. Patricia Morgan set Twitter ablaze Tuesday when she blasted out a bizarre post claiming she’d lost a Black friend due to a recent conservative obsession: critical race theory.

In the tweet, the Republican lawmaker complained that her friend had become “hostile and unpleasant” towards her—simply because she’s a white woman.

“Is that what teachers and our political leaders really want for our society? Divide us because of our skin color? #CRT,” Morgan wrote.

Morgan’s post was immediately flooded with responses, as thousands called out her tone deaf statement.

​​“Oof....the fact that you think this tweet is ok shows just how much you have to learn. It might be she was just too exhausted to be your teacher,” one Twitter user posted. “It’s not CRT...it’s you. Had you had access to CRT, maybe you wouldn't have alienated your friend.”

“CRT is about learning actual history and why people have an advantage for having white skin,” another wrote. “None of my friends are asking me to hate myself. That's not the issue. They want me to be aware/learn & do what I can to help.”

In an interview with The Daily Beast, Morgan refused to name the pal, but said they used to be close until the friend stopped responding to her phone calls and messages.

“I’m sad that she doesn’t feel like she’s my friend anymore,” Morgan said. “I know that she has become a real proponent of racial identity politics. And I’m pretty sure that’s the reason behind it. I’m sad that our country is going down that road. I think it’s bad for our country.”

In March, Morgan co-sponsored a bill in Rhode Island that would have banned the teaching of more than just critical race theory in public schools. The bill, RI H6070, failed to pass in June but was meant to prohibit the “teaching of divisive concepts” as well as mandate that “any contract, grant or training entered into by state or municipality include provisions prohibiting divisive concepts and prohibit making individual feel distress on account of their race or sex.”

Note the utter cluelessness in her used of the term "racial identity politics." She'll never understand that burying the racial component of history is exactly that. And since she doesn't want to avoid making an "individual feel distress on account of their race or sex" I guess teaching the history of the suffragettes including how women got the vote, how they were given won the right to own property, and how she's even able to hold the office that she does is completely out of bounds. What a f***ing pinhead.

Another one headed to prison where he belongs.

A leader of the neo-Nazi group Atomwaffen was sentenced to 84 months in prison on Tuesday over the group’s threat and intimidation campaign against reporters and Anti-Defamation League staff, according to the Justice Department.

The DOJ announced on Tuesday that 25-year-old Washington man Kaleb Cole was handed the sentence on charges of mailing threatening communications, cyberstalking, conspiracy and interfering with a federally protected activity based on religion.

Atomwaffen’s plot involved mailing threatening, hate-filled posters to journalists and activists against anti-Semitism. The group also tried to intimidate the victims by “swatting” them — that is, contacting law enforcement with hoax emergency calls to get a SWAT team to swarm the victims’ homes.

The extremists aimed the threats at journalists from ProPublica and local Seattle news station KING 5 who had exposed the group and its members, including Cole. The conspiracy also largely focused on Jewish individuals and journalists of color, according to the DOJ.

A viral video showing a racist attack aboard a Long Island Rail Road train has led to the firing of two employees by a Toyota dealership.

The incident reportedly occurred Monday night when an immigrant family, including a 10-year-old, were returning home from a New York Knicks game.

The video appears to show beer being thrown toward the family, before a man can be seen yelling at them, "Look straight! Don't f*cking look at me! I'm going to get arrested tonight!"

After another passenger tells the man that the argument is not worth getting arrested over, he responds, "I know it's not worth it, but these f*cking foreigners ain't taking over my f*cking country!"

But ... consequences.

Canales identified the attackers as a boyfriend and girlfriend who worked a Toyota dealership in Huntington, New York, and encouraged people to contact the business.

On Thursday, Empire Toyota of Huntington announced that the two employees had been fired.

Arizona GOPer Boosts Confederate Celebration On MLK Day

Arizona state Sen. Wendy Rogers (R), one of Trump’s top Big Lie crusaders, retweeted a white nationalist’s call for a holiday honoring Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson yesterday.

• Rogers spoke at Trump’s rally in Arizona several days prior, during which she demanded that the 2020 election results be decertified (somehow).

• She’s suggested that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors be sent to prison for defying subpoenas for election materials in the Arizona Senate’s notorious “audit.”

• This isn’t even the first time the senator’s cozied up to white nationalists on Twitter.

• Oh and she’s rolling in campaign donations: The Arizona senator raked in a record-breaking $2.5 million last year.

Republicans were criticized by a Wisconsin-based spice company for their alleged racism.

"The CEO of Penzeys Spices renamed the extended Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend to be 'Republicans are racist weekend' in a recent newsletter to customers, wherein he said his aim was to anger Republicans in honor of the late civil rights icon," Fox Business reported Tuesday.

In 2019, the company spent more than $100,000 on ads calling for the impeachment of Donald Trump.

"Remember how Republicans, going against a mountain of evidence to the contrary, once again lied and said BLM wasn't a peaceful movement but instead terrorists inciting violence throughout the country and then raced out to buy a crapload of guns because maybe they were finally going to get their chance to shoot a Black person?" Penzey wrote in the newsletetter. "What a bunch of racists."

He urged Republicans to become better people.

"The racist label is one you will deservingly wear every day you stand with [the Republican Party]. Get used to it, or maybe instead, become a better person. The choice is yours. We will be here rooting for you to Choose Love," he wrote.

Floriduh isn't just seeing snowflakes, it's seeing a snowstorm. Jim Crow lives and white supremacy/nationalism is now a core Republican position.

It is hard to accept when you might actually be the real snowflake.

But that’s the bitter pill Florida Republicans find themselves having to swallow.

The latest news: Florida state Republicans just passed a bill — pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) — that piles on an already-cemented state policy that bans the teaching of Critical Race Theory, and systemic racism-related issues, in Florida public schools.

This latest bill goes even further. It passed out of the Florida state legislature’s Republican-controlled Senate Education Committee this week by a 6-3 vote, per Orlando Weekly.

The bill is called “Individual Freedom” and would ban not only public schools, but private businesses from discussing race-related topics or enforcing any type of workplace training that could trigger employees’ “discomfort” or feelings of “guilt.” The proposed legislation is sweeping and, at least on its face, legally dubious as it bars private businesses from mandating any workplace instruction that would perpetuate the idea that “an individual bears responsibility for, or should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment because of actions committed in the past by other members of the same race, color, sex or national origin.”
