The latest news: Florida state Republicans just passed a bill — pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) — that piles on an already-cemented state policy that bans the teaching of Critical Race Theory, and systemic racism-related issues, in Florida public schools.

This latest bill goes even further. It passed out of the Florida state legislature’s Republican-controlled Senate Education Committee this week by a 6-3 vote, per Orlando Weekly.

The bill is called “Individual Freedom” and would ban not only public schools, but private businesses from discussing race-related topics or enforcing any type of workplace training that could trigger employees’ “discomfort” or feelings of “guilt.” The proposed legislation is sweeping and, at least on its face, legally dubious as it bars private businesses from mandating any workplace instruction that would perpetuate the idea that “an individual bears responsibility for, or should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment because of actions committed in the past by other members of the same race, color, sex or national origin.”

I was just hit with a blinding flash of the obvious when I noticed that both the "I will not get vaccinated" and the "Don't try to make me feel guilty for something that happened before I was born" folks all lack a sense of community, of recognizing that people they don't know are important too.  It's all about "me."  Vaccines protect other people?  Who cares! Society's structures created negative impacts of certain disfavored groups of people? I don't wanna hear about it!

Another white supremacist group that masqueraded as peaceful "patriots" has been unmasked.

Chat messages, images, and videos leaked from the server of a white supremacist group called Patriot Front purport to show its leader and rank-and-file members conspiring in hate crimes, despite their claims that they are a legitimate political organization.

Patriot Front, or PF, formed in the aftermath of the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in which one attendee rammed his car into a crowd of counterprotesters, killing one and injuring 35 others. PF founder Thomas Rousseau started the group after an image posted online showed the now-convicted killer, James Alex Fields Jr., posing with members of white supremacist group Vanguard America shortly before the attack. Vanguard America soon dissolved, and Rousseau rebranded it as PF with the goal of hiding any involvement in violent acts.

Since then, PF has strived to present itself as a group of patriots who are aligned with the ideals and values of America's 18th-century founders. In announcing the formation of PF in 2017, Rousseau wrote:

The new name was carefully chosen, as it serves several purposes. It can help inspire sympathy among those more inclined to fence-sitting, and can be easily justified to our ideology [sic] and worldview. The original American patriots were nothing short of revolutionaries. The word patriot itself comes from the same root as paternal and patriarch. It means loyalty to something intrinsically based in blood.

But a published report and leaked data the report is based on present a starkly different picture. The chat messages, images, and videos purport to show Rousseau and other PF members discussing the defacing of numerous murals and monuments promoting Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ groups, and other social justice causes.

This chat, for instance, appears to show a PF member discussing how to deface a civil rights mural in Detroit. When a member asks what the best way is to fully cover up a mural with paint, Rousseau is shown replying, “It’s in the stencil guide. Turbo cans.” The stencil guide refers to these instructions provided to PF members showing how to effectively use spray paint and not get caught. The PF member also sent Rousseau pictures taken while scouting the mural.

When a different member discussed whether rubber roofing cement could be used to cover a George Floyd memorial that had been treated with antigraffiti clear coating, Rousseau allegedly responded: “Keep me posted as to your research and practice with this substance. Orders will be given out at the event.”

The data dump also appears to document the defacing of a monument in Olympia, Washington.

An average of more than 10 anti-Semitic incidents occurred around the world every day last year, a 10-year high, said a report published on Monday.

Nearly half of the incidents took place in Europe, with the United States following at 30 percent, said the report from the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency for Israel.

Canada and Australia saw a "surprising" increase in incidents compared to previous years, according to the report which did not offer further information on the rise.

But while the numbers show that 2021 was "the most anti-Semitic year in the last decade," at the same time "no Jew in the world has been murdered on anti-Semitic grounds" over that period, the report said.

No anti-Semitic murders in 2021? Give 'em time.

A Florida history professor was slated to give a presentation on the civil rights movement in front of the state’s Osceola County School District teachers on Saturday — then the school district canceled the event due to Florida Republicans’ hysteria over “critical race theory.”

• The school district superintendent told the teachers in an email that the professor’s lecture needed to be reviewed by the district “in light of the current conversations across our state and in our community about critical race theory.”

• The professor’s presentation didn’t mention critical race theory or even systemic racism, NBC News reports.

• The cancellation came less than 24 hours after a GOP-controlled Florida Senate committee approved legislation banning race-related discussions that makes white people feel “discomfort.”

The wife of a Washington state prosecutor was busted -- again -- for using racial slurs on social media.

Lesley Anne Haskell, the wife of Spokane County prosecutor Larry Haskell, typed out the N-word and repeatedly referred to herself as a "proud White nationalist" on the right-wing Gab platform, which has become a cesspool of bigotry, reported the Inlander.

"My husband is the Spo Co Prosecutor and he’s the last line of conservative armor that the County has," Haskell posted. "Spokane has gone to sh*t."

Haskell reacted to a New York Post story, "MSNBC’s Joy Reid: Conservatives would trade tax cuts to ‘openly say the N-word,' by declaring the TV host was "the true definition of the word" -- which she typed out -- and frequently interacts with prominent white nationalist accounts and expresses similar views.

"Our race is dying, we need to make more White babies!" Haskell wrote in one post.

The University of Alabama Board of Trustees voted to add Autherine Lucy Foster’s name to Graves Hall in honor of the 66th anniversary of her enrollment. Lucy was the first African American student to enroll at the University on Feb. 3, 1956.

The College of Education building was originally named after former democrat, two-term Alabama governor, and Ku Klux Klan member Bibb Graves.

Far-right columnist and white nationalist ally Michelle Malkin has been booted from Airbnb after attending the white nationalist organization American Renaissance's gathering in Nashville last November.

“Consistent with our policies, if we become aware of users who are members of or are actively affiliated with hate groups, we remove them from Airbnb,” company spokesperson Ben Breit told The Daily Beast on Wednesday. The site also banned Malkin’s husband, she wrote, since her trips were often booked from his account.

“The new twist in my case is Airbnb going after my HUSBAND for simply being married to me. Are my kids next? How about other #AmericaFirst families?” Malkin, a close ally of white nationalist Nicholas Fuentes' extremist “America First” movement, fumed Wednesday afternoon on Twitter.

“Of course, this latest & ongoing escalation of the deplatforming wars is not just about Airbnb or me,” continued Malkin. “It’s about curtailing underlying power of SPLC & ADL to oppress their most effective political opponents & sabotage every aspect of our professional & personal lives.”

The SPLC has deemed American Renaissance a hate group, while the Anti-Defamation League has called it a “white supremacist journal.”

School officials in Colchester, Connecticut, have confirmed that several parents attending a girls high school basketball game over the weekend used “racial taunts” against rival players. Colchester schools superintendent Jeffrey Burt announced Tuesday that an investigation “into allegations of offensive comments and negative behavior” by parents of Bacon Academy students found that “this behavior did take place and included racial taunts by some adults aimed at opposing youth players.” Parents of Ledyard High students were quoted in local media reports saying their kids were targeted by adult Bacon Academy spectators shouting the “N-word.” One adult was reportedly escorted out during the game. Burt said the school’s investigation found that the Bacon Academy basketball players themselves did not engage in any of the harassment exhibited by parents, but they were now being subjected to harassment on social media. “We ask for the online harassment of these students to end immediately,” he said in a statement.

Racism helps some people go up the Republican political ladder. Here's a classic example. So its the asshat she's going to work for.

f you are young, white, ambitious, and hoping to become a prominent conservative, openly declaring your racism seems like a way to hasten your ascent.

It’s worked so far for Crystal Clanton, who back in 2017 briefly made headlines for a text stating, simply but emphatically, “I HATE BLACK PEOPLE. Like fuck them all...I hate blacks. End of story.”

When that message and others like it she’d sent were made public, Clanton was in her fifth year as second-in-command at the right-wing campus group and hotbed of bigotry Turning Point USA; TPUSA head Charlie Kirk had previously called Clanton the organization’s “best hire” and claimed that “Turning Point needs more Crystals; so does America.” Her next stop was a highly visible media position with Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and “Stop the Steal” conspiracy theorist. This spring, Clanton will graduate from law school at George Mason University School and step into her most prestigious role yet, clerking for federal appeals court judge William Pryor.

It defies belief that Pryor—or Ginni Thomas or Charlie Kirk for that matter—was unaware of Clanton’s views. Thomas hired Clanton right after her stint at TPUSA and kept her on, gushing about her on social media, despite negative coverage. Kirk suggested he was outraged after Clanton’s racist texts leaked, but subsequent reporting showed she “would exchange racist remarks regularly with other TPUSA staffers.” Federal clerkships like the one Clanton just landed with Judge Pryor are highly coveted and prestigious stepping stones and applicants are thoroughly vetted before being selected.

If this isn’t an open embrace of racism, what would be? The moment is instructive only in that it reaffirms what’s long been apparent about American conservatism. There are those who would have you believe that there is a sort of high-minded conservatism and a low-minded conservatism, with the intellectual right on one side and an unwashed mass of racist kooks on the other. But there’s no delineation when it comes down to it, as Clanton is well aware—her racist texts didn’t dissuade her from applying for, or disqualify her from receiving, a clerkship that’s basically a fast-track to power with a federal judge who was on Donald Trump’s shortlist for the Supreme Court.

Judge Pryor, for the record, has called Roe v. Wade “the worst abomination in the history of constitutional law,” denigrated Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act as “an affront to federalism and an expensive burden that has far outlived its usefulness,” wrote one brief in favor of executing the intellectually disabled and another supporting Alabama prisons handcuffing incarcerated people to hitching posts in the hot sun “as a way to impel inmates to work.”

An Alabama legislative committee has advanced two bills designed to further protect Confederate monuments and criminalize people who attempt to remove them.

State Sen. Gerald Allen introduced the bills Tuesday. Under one of the proposed bills, the fine for removing a monument would increase from a flat fee of $25,000 to $5,000 for each day a monument isn't restored.

These bills come at a time when Americans continue to debate whether Confederate monuments should remain or be taken down across the country.

About 73 Confederate monuments were removed or renamed in 2021 and there are now 723 left in the United States, according to a Southern Poverty Law Center report released last week. There are also an additional 741 roadways, 201 schools, 51 buildings, 38 parks and 22 holidays honoring the Confederacy. According to the SPLC, there are about 156 Confederate symbols throughout Alabama.

The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee's move Tuesday puts the bills in line for a vote by the Senate.

Jerome Dees, the Southern Poverty Law Center's Alabama policy director, told CNN he believes the proposed bills are part of a broader movement across the South to "preserve the Confederacy" and oppression that the monuments represent.

"The legislation that we're seeing are just reiterations of old Jim Crow oppression that works to continue that same psychological and mental pressure," he said.

The act is a reminder of just how long after the end of slavery some White Southerners were pushing not just to strip African Americans of their political rights but also to remove them from the land of their birth.

This just in

A jury on Tuesday determined that the three white Georgia men who murdered Ahmaud Arbery violated a federal hate-crime statute by depriving Mr. Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man, of his right to use a public street because of the color of his skin.

The jury also found the three men — Travis McMichael, 36, his father, Gregory McMichael, 66, and their neighbor William Bryan, 52 — guilty of attempted kidnapping and found the McMichaels guilty of one count each of brandishing or discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

The men now face up to life in prison for the federal crimes, on top of the life sentences they received earlier this year in state court after being convicted of Mr. Arbery’s murder, with only Mr. Bryan eligible for parole. The federal convictions ensure that the defendants will receive significant prison time even if their state convictions are overturned or their sentences reduced on appeal.
