As a west coast Phillies fan, I was happy to see them sweep the Cardinals these past two days. I didn’t get to any home games when I was back in May. Friday night’s 9th inning rally was awesome.

Game 2 for the Phillies with the Padres today. I'd love to see another upper deck artillery round from Schwarber today. That was a cannon shot.

With the playoffs being a 4 series post-season, pushing games into November, the cold may affect the teams this week. The Phillies might have an advantage there, especially with pitching arms.

I don't know when games are supposed to be played or where but Philadelphia is predicted to have highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s for the next 9 days at which point they're predicting a rain storm.

Folks in Sacramento are happy about the Astros winning the World Series. Dusty Baker, manager and still resident of the area, finally won a series as manager. He played high school ball and community college ball in Sacramento. He's also in the wine business here.

The Big Leaguers are in Spring Training.
College ball has been going on a couple weeks—the FL schools host a fair number of squads from up North (Gators just hosted the U Cincinnati Bearcats) this time of year.
And at the high school level, my favorite HS baseball team is 3-0 on the season; all of the victories were against teams in higher classifications than we are.

Just looked at my local Triple A team the RiverCats [SF Giants farm] schedule. The home opener is against the El Paso Chihuahuas.

I nothing sacred anymore ? If you're a baseball 'aficionado" you know about the mud "ritual". It seems MLB is trying to find an alternative to the natural mud that has been a staple since the 1930's Preserve the joy in this N.J. ‘Mudville’Here’s a similar but unique case from the heart of South Jersey. The spin is that the small business that’s being pursued is a monopoly itself — but one that deserves to preserve its corner of the market. The scene is an undisclosed location on the shores of the Delaware River, most likely in Burlington County. It’s where they get the main ingredient for Lena Blackburne Baseball Rubbing Mud. The natural product, dug up and collected by the company’s owners or employees, is rubbed on all MLB baseballs and most of those in the minor leagues, as well. The company’s website boasts that its mud is “used by every Major League and Minor League Baseball Organization for nearly 75 years!” That’s where the threat comes in. Reports indicate MLB, and its sister minor leagues, have been searching for an in-house alternative for several years, so they’d no longer have to purchase Lena Blackburne’s. Last season, and again this season, factory “pre-rubbed” balls direct from Rawlings are being tested in select minor league parks. By the way, Rawlings — wouldn’t you know it? — is now owned by Major League Baseball. www.nj.com/opinion/2023/04/preserve-the-joy-in-this-nj-mudville-editorial.html?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=njcom_sf&utm_content=nj_facebook_njcom&fbclid=IwAR15AVsI-X66zUT2wRBK0tL6TTpHZ8yy-Kg0yh16AUDCvtY6hfUzP5n78cs

I have long since heard the mud came from the Rancocas Creek, a fair sized tidal creek/river that empties into the Delaware. I grew up within walking distance of that creek and pulled many a fish out it.

The College World Series is coming to a conclusion. Florida punched its ticket to the Finals last night; LSU and Wake Forest play tonight in a winner moves on/loser goes home affair. Oddly enough, I’m not anxious to see an all-SEC CWS final, even though I would normally pull for LSU.

LSU fans are very loud. It was like a home game for them. Final series should be fun. Sorry the picture quality isn't better. I had to lower the quality in order to be able to upload it.

There were some tremendous plays. It was probably even more exciting in person than on TV. That they are…also likely very intoxicated. I read an ESPN piece about the record number of Jell-O shots consumed by Tiger faithful. And if you think *that*’s loud, Death Valley (the football stadium) holds far more people… Final series should be fun. Sorry the picture quality isn't better. They bring a lot of fans, tons of passion, they have a good time, they consume a lot of alcohol, they spend money and they tend to stay for the duration of the tournament regardless of their own team's success. It really is a great tournament. If you like baseball, it is worth the trip, especially if you have a team who makes it.

Florida found their bats today. And, just like that, it will come down to one game in Omaha. Tomorrow evening. LSU & Florida for All The Marbles. Interestingly enough, they didn’t play each other in the regular season this year; it used to be that they played each other every year—there have been some real Florida-LSU barn-burners over the years.
Now that we’re retired and as good as empty nesters, it might be worth putting a June trek to Omaha on the List of Things to Do. Owing to something else that will be taking place in June 2024, that trip won’t come off until 2025 at the soonest.

Watching the Little League World Series. There’s nothing like play being interrupted because the foul tip makes square contact with the lens of the home plate camera. Play resumed once the broken glass was cleaned up and the camera lens got replaced.

My husband and I always laugh at the inane baseball stats tv announcers bring up. After the Phillies and D-backs game, Bryce Harper (Phillies) was interviewed and at the end the interviewer said Bryce was the 4th player in the MLB to hit a home run on his birthday. Who keeps these stats? Don't they have a life?

Who keeps these stats? Don't they have a life? Ever seen the Baseball Encyclopedia ? It is massive. Baseball is a game of statistics. How many outs by “Pitcher” on a humid day, third inning, facing left handers. All the teams have a stats person and had so for years.
