I was thinking "humor" section, but I realized this is not that funny.
The office of president is a bastardized thing, half royalty and half democracy that nobody knows whether to genuflect or spit.

So much for Reagan's shining city on a hill. Instead it's being seen as a cesspool of hatred, bigotry, hostility, rudeness, and overall dysfunctionality that the Republican Party has nurtured.

How does the media spin this into " DEMS IN DISARRAY!"
BTW I see almost no coverage on the MSM of McCarthy's trials and the most radical wing of the House GOP calling the shots.

What was Strom Thurmond's in the end? He looked like a cadaver getting led into Senate chambers. There is a lot of political maneuvering going on here in California. Lots of Congress Members trying to figure out if there is support for them. Plus, if Feinstein leaves before this term is over, the Governor sorta promised that a black woman would be appointed to fill out any empty term. This was because he didn't appoint Barbara Lee or someone else when Kamala Harris became VP. He got heat about that when he turned to Alex Padilla who was Secretary of State at the time. Feinstein may want to give these folks room to sort it out before primary season 2024 by pretending to want to run for re-election.

I'm gonna' miss Nancy. Not sure when this was taken but she lays Moscow Mitch out. Pelosi's criticism of both Trump and McConnell got more and more pointed as time wore on. And clearly she was tired of the media falling for the BS shoveled out by those two and asking her questions based on it.

Here's an interesting variation on the "sovereign citizen" idea. The article is about property in Maryland that gun nuts like to use for target practice to the dismay of their neighbors.

Remember Peter Thiel's dating app, The Right Stuff, reported on this thread back here and here? It's still floundering. There's also the problem that the MAGAt males just aren't viewed as suitable mates by the overwhelming majority of desirable women. This has been reported on multiple times.

They're growing up and aging in the face of the previously inconceivable and they are horrified. Unlike their elders they aren't quite so stupid and understand that what's going on is nothing less than the continuance or destruction of American democracy.

I suspect many of them remember graduating from college and high school into a very uncertain economy and then more recently seeing how climate change and disease can disrupt their futures. Sort of like those who lived through the Great Depression, they may be more understanding of the need for taking care of each other to cushion those sorts of times...unlike many Boomers who came of age during the longest economic expansion of all time and who persist in believing they didn't have or need any help from anyone except maybe they need a booming stock market.

Don't dismiss the GenXers, who are of a greater percentage MAGAts than any other generation. These are the ones that grew up under the myth of Reaganomics.

Another special counsel, another Republican. Personally I'm sick of this shit, especially since their track record is less than stellar. Mueller is one of the better ones and he left an awful lot on the table. Star and Durham were total partisan hacks.

The city of Jackson is over 80% black. If you were them would you trust the good ole boys in the state legislature, in a state with possible the most stacked laws ensuring they retain power, to handle federal money provided on your behalf? My first question would be, how much are they going to skim as a cracker tax? 10%? 50? 90?

An interesting aftermath of the derailment has surfaced:
The GOP and its media allies are screaming about pollution by hazardous materials from the incident.
Compare it to the deregulation of the coal sludge, oil spills and lead pollution in Mississippi and Michigan for which they have been unusually silent.
Just asking.

The only consistency you will see from these howlers is the one that says "Democrats are bad."

I posted this over on the Republican war on reality thread. The Republicans own this since it is inextricably linked to their fixation with deregulation. The Dems need to hang it around their necks and push for meaningful change. When they won't do it, and Qevin and Qrew won't, tell everybody that Republicans want them to die for corporate profits. It has the bonus of being true.

The Dems need to hang it around their necks and push for meaningful change. When they won't do it, and Qevin and Qrew won't, tell everybody that Republicans want them to die for corporate profits. It has the bonus of being true. In reading the book by Arlie Hochschild Strangers In Their Own Land I learned that people in Louisiana that are very damaged by the chemical companies in that area did not and would not condemn the corporations that endowed them with that mess of cancer and other long term impacts. They need the jobs, they don't want to leave family and familiar surroundings, and somehow it's all other people's fault who were cutting ahead of them in line to reaching the American Dream. The familiar, even if it is bad, is preferable to a change. The town where the derailment happened is not accustomed to the possibility that some chemical could damage them, plus it was a sudden dramatic event that caught their attention. They want something done now! Sad to say that water and soil remediation takes a long time and lots of money. Would these people be willing to move out of their locality while this is going on?

Welcome to Alabama, where masculinity gets a trophy even when it doesn't win. The adults who did this are sad, pathetic, fragile, and decidedly unmanly.
