The preliminary census data is interesting. I couldn't get the image to show the percentage changes in the states but of most interest to me is that most states show growth except for West Virginia and Illinois...plus Puerto Rico. I can guess why people left Puerto Rico in light of the hurricanes in past years. West Virginia? Who knows. Illinois shows a small loss. In my mind my home state became a place of retired people who wanted to move to some parts of the Southor Arizona for some better weather. But the population is moving to the Southeast to Western states...dry ones like Texas, Nevada, Utah. And also to scenic ones like Colorado, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Montana. And then there's North Dakota. No theory on why that state has grown other than the fracking boom but I thought that was over.

Illinois has been losing population from the city and southern Illinois for lack of jobs for non college educated people, both black and white.
