Mission-driven economy definitely sounds theocratic. Perhaps the Vatican would get behind it.
What the hell is it? Whose mission would it be? Yours or mine? What happens to those that don't subscribe to that particular mission?
DARPA has a mission. So does NIH and every other private and public organization. Each driven one extent or another to achieve their mission. Those who knowingly join those organizations either already subscribe to or adopt the organization's mission. I don't understand what it means for the entire economy to have a mission other than to compete, stay alive, and grow in size. Are you merely talking about each organization getting better at achieving its mission?
