Gee, maybe it also had something to do with some of these states doing everything in their power to scare the shit out of Hispanics and making them feel threatened to stick their heads up.

Ohio poll workers are pushing against the unconstitutional Republican district map, the one that has been shot down repeatedly by the state supreme court but they're just pretending can't be fixed and besides it's too late anyway. Welcome to another brand of Republican election fraud.

A group of election precinct officials have sent a letter to the Ohio Secretary of State say they “cannot defend democracy” when the Ohio Redistricting Commission, including Secretary of State Frank LaRose, aren’t doing the same, they say.

Election workers in 23 counties signed on to a letter asking the commission and LaRose to heed their warnings that the maps adopted by the commission and pushed along by a federal court are unconstitutional, and therefore would push precinct workers to be a part of elections “when the outcomes of those elections have already been predetermined by politicians who manipulated districts to prevent fair competition.”

“As precinct election officials, we cannot in good faith participate in a primary election on August 2 if it proceeds with unconstitutionally gerrymandered districts, and we advise our fellow poll workers to not be made complicit in illegitimate elections,” the letter stated.

The officials said they are continuing to collect signatures on the letter, and cite Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost in arguing more time exists for the General Assembly to change election dates and methods before the November general election.

The Ohio Redistricting Commission has also been given a June 3 deadline by the Ohio Supreme Court to resubmit a legislative district plan, after finding the maps adopted invalid for the second time.

The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday declined to block the state's new congressional map drawn by Governor Ron DeSantis' administration, likely ensuring the plan will remain in effect for November's midterm elections and giving Republicans a boost in their quest to win control of Congress.

The plan has been challenged by several voting and civil rights groups as unlawful because it dismantles a majority-Black district in north Florida held by Democratic U.S. Representative Al Lawson.

The groups have also argued that the map violates state constitutional provisions intended to prevent partisan gerrymandering, in which district lines are manipulated to benefit a political party.

The new map gives Republicans the advantage in 20 of the state's 28 congressional districts, four more seats than the party currently occupies.

Republicans need to flip five Democratic seats in the U.S. House of Representatives to win a majority, which would allow them to stymie much of Democratic President Joe Biden's agenda. Overall, Republicans have gained approximately three seats nationally solely due to redistricting, according to the Cook Political Report.

Tony Evers scans the brightly colored maps that hang on the walls. They depict the tortuously shaped legislative districts drawn in a state now regarded as one of the most gerrymandered in the nation. “Who in their right minds could’ve made them up?” Evers asks.

The answer: Republicans in the state legislature. Evers saw firsthand the impact of GOP control of the redistricting process when he ran for governor in 2018. That year, Democrats swept all five statewide races and won 53 percent of votes cast for the state assembly, but the party retained just 36 percent of seats in the chamber. “It’s real simple,” Evers says, after eating a Five Guys burger for lunch. “All the statewide elected officials are Democrats… But then you go into the legislature and it’s almost two-thirds Republicans. There’s something wrong with that picture.”

One potential takeaway from tonight is that the US is a center left country with a gerrymandering problem.

If republicans are going to turn in a historically poor midterm performance now in this moment, a lot of talking heads need to re-evaluate their priors on this stuff.

Notice how statewide races are mostly breaking for Dems and the only GOP pick ups are coming from micro-dissected, newly gerrymandered districts? That’s no coincidence.

Oh, that would be easy and would be pitched as separating the righteous from the wicked. It will be Rod Dreher's "Benedict Option" that happens to give the minority complete control in a democracy.

Essentially that is what the independent state legislature doctrine is...only not God, but the Founding Fathers who must be obeyed.
