I wonder how many times in history the vote for speaker has resulted in the minority party candidate winning the most votes? Because so far Jeffries has won all 11.

Qevin decided that economically ripping the nation apart when the Freedumb Caucus attempts its next debt hostage crisis is a price he's willing to pay. Everybody needs to remember this and repeat, over and over and over again, to everybody who loses a paycheck that it's all because Qevin bought his Speaker position with their money.

Not surprising. But now that McCarthy is zeroing in on the Speakership, it comes out: McCarthy agreed to back the Freedom Caucus on the next debt ceiling hostage crisis.

Josh presents what it's all about for the Freedumb Caucus, and Qevin seems willing to give it to them.

Events last night and especially over the last 20 minutes or so should remind us of a basic reality. This drama is not an ideological fight within the Republican Party. It’s a argument within the Freedom Caucus about which person they will choose for speaker who, in turn, has to do exactly what they tell him to do. That sounds cheeky. And it may be. But it’s the reality of the situation. It’s Freedom Caucus players who are the key people on both sides of the contest. It now seems like McCarthy’s advocates in the Freedom Caucus are carrying the day.

I’m pretty sure what the negotiators are having to agree to are deals that not only greatly limit the powers of Kevin McCarthy as speaker but significantly hardwired the House to be controlled by the Freedom Caucus. The argument here is about which Freedom Caucus faction could best secure that outcome.

What's going on??? There are 9 non-votes for McCarthy in the 14th round and we are only on the Gs. That's backward movement.

The Speakership will be stripped of power.  McCarthy will be allowed to sit behind the big desk in the Speaker's Office and pass out business cards identifying him as Speaker. That's it...nothing else. I really don't understand the dislike of him...he was going to go along with whoever yelled at him the loudest...the 20 jerks would not be ignored by him...obviously he's been paying attention to them.  MTG figured it out.


Maybe the speakership holds too much power?  Certainly power used by bad people gives us bad results.  The problem is that lack of power in the Speakership turns the bad people loose to do whatever they want.  In this case they want to deconstruct the administrative state and deprive the governmental agencies of money so that the government will shrink enough to drown in the bathtub. It's gonna be grim for next two years as the House is unable to pass anything.

He is going to need Dem help to pass the 'must pass' legislation. John Boehner II, and he will suffer the same fate.

"must pass" legislation?  The 20 jerks don't understand that concept. There will be repeated motions, repeated votes on absolutely everything. And if they think McCarthy isn't buckling under to their opinions they spend time with motions to vacate the Speakership and forced prolonged voting trying to replace him.

We have a speaker but apparently talking is about the only power he will wield. They did not vote on House rules as is customary to do that will wait until Monday. Reportedly, as part of the concession package there will be 3 of the ultra conservatives on the rules committee which is pretty huge.

As I understand, the POG moderates are so pissed that they wont let the most egregious rules pass.  We'll see.
