An accused Capitol rioter broke the conditions of his pretrial release by bingeing pillow magnate Mike Lindell’s awful voter fraud symposium earlier this month.

The defendant, Douglas Jensen, acknowledged in a court filing Sunday that he’d broken the rules against accessing the internet. But he asked for the court’s lenience, comparing the incident to a drug user’s relapse. Jensen is pictured above in the “Q” shirt.

“If a drug abuser relapses, there is typically a sanction protocol in place to help the person deal with his/her substance abuse issues,” Jensen’s lawyer wrote. “Mr. Jensen requests that this Honorable Court treat his violation is a similar manner.”

The House select committee on investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection will request phone records of various people, including members of Congress, committee chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) confirmed on Monday.

Per the Hill and Politico, Thompson said on Monday that the committee will send the requests to telecommunication and social media companies.

The Democrat wouldn’t specify which companies the committee would reach out to, but he told reporters that “they’re the ones that pretty much you already know, maybe the networks, the social media platforms, those kinds of things.” The committee is seeking voluntary compliance from the companies, according to Thompson, and will not immediately issue subpoenas.

The committee has “quite an exhaustive list” of people who will be contacted in the investigation, Thompson said.

“I won’t tell you who they are, but it’s several hundred people that make up the list of people we are planning to contact,” he told reporters when asked if ex-President Donald Trump’s family members or associates would be one of those contacts.

The planned request comes amid scrutiny over House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) conversations with Trump on the day of the insurrection. The Republican lawmakers have refused to disclose what they discussed with the then-president.

They just bagged another violent terrorist from Jan. 6 Republican Insurrection.

The Justice Department announced on Tuesday that an Oklahoma man caught on video pushing an Associated Press photographer over a wall outside the Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection was arrested last week.

Benjamen Scott Burlew of Miami, Oklahoma, is the second person charged with assaulting photographer John Minchillo, who documented the pro-Trump mob of Capitol insurrectionists on Jan. 6.

Burlew is charged with federal offenses that include “assault in special territorial jurisdiction and acts of physical violence on restricted grounds,” according to a DOJ press release.

And here's a connection that one of the terrorists had which shouldn't shock anybody.

The woman accused of stealing a laptop used by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s staff during the January 6 Capitol Hill mob-attack appears to have also been posting in a notorious neo-Nazi chatroom.

An anonymous tipster provided screenshots allegedly showing Riley June Williams under a known alias that was previously reported, participating in "The Camps"—a racist and neo-Nazi chat room linked to military veteran and moderately-known, Christopher Pohlhaus, 34, and his online network. Pohlhaus, an ex-Marine, said that the alias believed to be Williams’ no longer has anything to do with his online following and was only inside chats that he described as a basic and open “vetting” room. (Posts inside The Camps are littered with racist epithets and antisemitic screeds).

VICE News shared the screenshots with four independent extremism researchers who all said the images appeared to be authentic and undoctored. Three of them, who have studied Williams closely since January 6, said the alias, dates of the posts, and general content matched-up to her known social media behavior and activities.

In recent months, Pohlhaus, who lives in Texas, has organized a national counter protest against the memorial of George Floyd’s murder and advocated for white men and women to move en masse to Maine to make the New England state an all-Caucasian ethnostate. (He told VICE News at the time that his planned migration is simply him “trying to build a community of family men.”)

Williams, a Virginia-native who is a reported supporter of the white-nationalist politics of Nick Fuentes and his “Groyper” movement, stormed the Capitol and allegedly wanted to sell the stolen laptop used by the staff of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Russian intelligence.

On Wednesday, he said he would invoke executive privilege to block the House Select Committee from investigating documents containing communications tied to the Capitol riots. “Executive privilege will be defended, not just on behalf of my Administration and the Patriots who worked beside me, but on behalf of the Office of the President of the United States and the future of our Nation,” the ex-president said in a statement. Trump’s successor Joe Biden will have the final say over whether the information can be shared, and the Biden administration has said it won’t stand in the way of the committee’s investigation. CNN reports that the documents Trump is trying to block include records from the Departments of Justice, Interior and Defense as well as the National Archives, which host Trump’s records while in office. In his angry statement, Trump also called the committee “a partisan sham and a waste of taxpayer dollars.”

President Joe seems to have learned from Obama's failure to hold people accountable for a nationalized torture program and war crimes. Give these people an inch and they'll take our country.

Too early to tell. In fact indications thus far are to the contrary. President Biden would much rather not have to deal with the whole Trump episode. 

As to Presidential powers and executive privilege being vested in the President, remember, he would be re-inaugurated sometime in March... August... December...he's still the President for half the country, so he retains half his powers.

The patriotic officer who shot criminal traitor and insurrectionist Ashli Babbitt is speaking up.

Michael Byrd, the until-recently unidentified Capitol Police officer who fatally shot Capitol insurrectionist Ashli Babbitt, says he’s received threats as ex-President Donald Trump and his allies have sought to paint Babbitt as a martyr.

“They talked about killing me, cutting off my head,” Byrd told NBC News in one of the pre-taped interview clips that aired on Thursday and Friday. “You know, very vicious and cruel things.”

Byrd, who is Black, also acknowledged that he was targeted for his race.

“There were some racist attacks as well,” he said.

The officer pushed back against Trump’s “disheartening” attacks, in which the former president cast him as a murderer and a Democratic operative.

“If he was in the room or anywhere and I’m responsible for him, I [would be] prepared to do the same thing for him and his family,” Byrd told NBC News.

Additionally, “I do my job for Republican, for Democrat, for white, for Black, red, blue, green,” the officer said.

Byrd explained that he had decided to come forward and identify himself despite all the threats because he wanted to show “courage.”

“I believe I showed the utmost courage on January 6th,” he said. “And it’s time for me to do that now.”

The House Select Committee continues to look widely for information.

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack announced a broad request on Friday for records relating to the insurrection from social media and other internet-related companies.

The request demands records about the planning and execution of the attack from a range of companies that include right-wing social networks Gab and Parler, troll forums 4Chan and 8Kun, and mainstream tech giant Google, among others.

The companies, which also include Facebook, Twitter, and walkie-talkie app Zello, have until Sept. 9 to respond.

The panel issued a sweeping request for records relating to the attack from federal agencies on Wednesday, taking square aim at Trump’s involvement and at any potential coordination between rioters and the White House.

This batch of requests appears intended to examine the role of disinformation in the run-up to the attack, as well as searching for potential ways that rioters coordinated before and during the insurrection attempt.

Meanwhile we have a new name popping up among the Republican loud-mouthed fascists. If the GOP takes control of the House then Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) wants Republicans to engage in punitive attacks on any members of the House Select Committee. Welcome to fascism. It ain't even close anymore.

Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) is urging his party to punish every lawmaker investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol if Republicans take back the majority in 2022.

“When we win back the majority next year, we have a duty as Republicans to hold every member of this committee accountable for this abuse of power, for stepping over the line, by preventing them from being in positions of authority,” Banks told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday. “Take them off any committee, get them as far away from positions of power as you can because they’ve shown us that by threatening to do this that they abuse their power, wherever they are.”

The attorney for 17 Republican insurrectionists may be dying of COVID. Or he may not be. He seems to have just disappeared off the grid and no one person seems to be able to claim first-hand knowledge of his whereabouts or condition.

John Pierce, a conservative lawyer who represents 17 Capitol insurrectionists, is missing and has left his clients without legal representation since Monday last week, according to federal prosecutors.

Channing Phillips, the acting U.S. Attorney General for the District of Columbia, told the court in a case involving one of the 17 insurrectionists on Monday that his office hasn’t had contact with Pierce since August 23, and has heard “conflicting information” about Pierce’s whereabouts amid reports that the lawyer is currently hospitalized for COVID-19.

According to the court filing, Pierce’s associate, Ryan Marshall, told the court on August 25 that the attorney was “on a ventilator and non-responsive” while being treated for COVID-19, then apparently hedged the next day and said that he hadn’t personally spoken with Pierce, and that he was getting conflicting information.

“Before that hearing, Mr. Marshall told the Assistant U.S. Attorney that he had not had any direct contact with Mr. Pierce, but that one of Mr. Pierce’s friends had told him that Mr. Pierce was sick with COVID-19 and another had said he was not,” the filing reads. “During the hearing, Mr. Marshall requested, and was granted, a sealed bench conference at which to discuss Mr. Pierce’s condition.”

Phillips noted more inconsistent reports on Pierce’s health status: First a colleague of Pierce at the National Constitutional Law Union (NCLU) told NPR reporter Tom Dreisbach that Pierce was hospitalized and “appears to have been suffering from dehydration and exhaustion” but did not have COVID-19. Then Dreisbach reported later that a source close to Pierce said that the lawyer was hospitalized for the virus but was not placed on a ventilator.

Pierce’s absence and the fact that Marshall isn’t a licensed attorney means the 17 insurrectionists being represented by Pierce now “appear to be effectively without counsel,” the prosecutor wrote.

TPM has been unable to reach Pierce. His firm’s office number appears to have been disconnected, and the cell phone contact listed on his website leads to a voicemail of a person stating that the number “no longer” belongs to Pierce.

NCLU, Pierce’s non-profit, did not immediately respond to TPM’s inquiry.
