As if it wasn't bad enough that Pennsylvania has a religious freak running for the Republican gubernatorial nomination it looks like another front-runner is a right-wing domestic terrorist, or at least loves to rub elbows with them.

On Monday, NBC News' Dasha Burns revealed new photographs that purportedly show Pennsylvania Senate candidate Kathy Barnette marching with members of the Proud Boys toward the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Some of those members of the Proud Boys were later charged with breaking into the Capitol and assaulting police officers.

The Proud Boys are a self-described "Western Chauvinist" group known for their violent brawling tactics.

There is no evidence that Barnette herself breached the Capitol, and her campaign denies she did so, saying, "any assertion that [Barnette] participated in or supported the destruction of property is intentionally false. She has no connection whatsoever to the Proud Boys."

Ooooohhhhh, no connection. Suuuuurrrrreeee.

All of the insanity you expect is cropping up. First Matt Gaetz is claiming his embrace of replacement theory is "race-neutral." I don't even know where to start with that.

Gaetz admitted that he promoted the so-called "replacement theory" in a tweet agreeing with Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

The theory suggests that white Americans are being replaced by immigrants. But Gaetz attempted to define the theory as "race-neutral."

"I've never spoken of replacement theory in terms of race. I was speaking in race-neutral political terms about how Democrats in many urban cities have failed their voters of all color and kind," Gaetz told Newsweek. "Thus, I charge that Democrats seek unchecked immigration to replace the people who have relied on them most to their detriment."

An AZ state legislator is even more f***ed up.

An Arizona Republican state legislator with ties to white nationalists suggested the Buffalo massacre was staged.

State Sen. Wendy Rogers, an election conspiracist who spoke at a white nationalist event, posted a message on the social media platform Telegram that speculated government agents had carried out the murder of 10 people at a grocery store in a Black neighborhood, reported HuffPost.

“Fed boy summer has started in Buffalo,” Rogers posted, although she didn't make clear why federal agents would stage the mass shooting.

Steve Bannon used to own his white supremacy, er, nationalism. Now he seems to be dropping the white part.

Conservative podcaster Steve Bannon on Monday vowed not to back down in promoting a racist conspiracy theory that was allegedly cited by suspected Buffalo gunman Payton Gendron.

On his daily War Room: Pandemic podcast, Bannon insisted reports about the "replacement theory" were meant to distract the public. Bannon has previously promoted a French book that inspired the theory, which claims that white citizens are being replaced by immigrants.

"Of course, all of the morning shows are all over Tucker Carlson and a few others about the replacement theory," Bannon complained. "They seem to miss the point. And here's what we're not going to back off on. For people who have followed this show from day one, we are inclusive nationalists. Right?"

"OK? So, this is not about race," he continued. "This is about American citizenship! This is about the value of your citizens."

Bannon said that he was "not backing off one inch" despite the shooting.

Even the WSJ can't bring itself to get on board the racist train.

In a biting editorial on Monday morning, the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal called out politicians and conservative media personalities for promoting the conspiratorial "white replacement theory" that was at the heart of the horrific mass shooting in Buffalo, New York on Saturday.

As Yahoo News reports, a manifesto reportedly written by the 18-year-old gunman who murdered ten and wounded three at a grocery store in Buffalo "includes dozens of pages antisemitic and racist memes, repeatedly citing the racist 'great replacement' conspiracy theory frequently pushed by white supremacists, which falsely claims white people are being 'replaced' in America as part of an elaborate Jewish conspiracy theory."

According to the WSJ editors, "We’ll learn more about the shooter’s motives and mindset, but it’s worth noting a report in the Buffalo News that an official in the school Mr. Gendron attended in Conklin, N.Y., said he had spoken of wanting to go on a shooting spree. He fits the profile of other young men who become mass shooters at an age when mental illness often strikes. Keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill isn’t easy, but it’s one form of gun control that would do some good."

Moving past the mental illness element, the editors said blame must also be placed upon those whose words are writings may have influenced the shooter.

Without naming any media personalities or lawmakers, the editors wrote, "There’s no doubt that a racist subculture exists in America and is spread on social media. Politicians and media figures have an obligation to condemn it and such conspiratorial notions as 'white replacement theory.'"

A lone wolf shooter has an online pack.  

When we write about, think about, and prosecute such hate crimes in this nation, we tend to focus on whether the assailant acted alone. In this case, Gendron appears to have had no accomplices. He is an alleged solo shooter, or, in the parlance of our time, a lone wolf—a term used to differentiate the slaughter from more sophisticated acts of terrorism staged by groups like ISIS that typically involve multiple people and nuanced planning.

But that lone wolf language fails us in an era when hate and radicalization now serve as a proxy for the collaborative herd, for the co-conspirators and colluders. Gendron wasn’t alone. His mission was effective because he was supported by an apparatus that provided the ideology and means for the hunt. Based on evidence from a manifesto that he reportedly posted Thursday night, Gendron did not perceive himself as being alone: He had his people; they were there for him.

As if to make that clear, he livestreamed some of his actions yesterday, a performative gesture for an audience that already existed. To emphasize that his victims were targeted and not at all random, Gendron wrote that he chose the specific Tops supermarket because it was in a demographic area that, according to public data, is only 1 percent white. And lest there be any doubt, he wrote the N-word on the tip of his gun, a word perfectly visible from his videotape of the rampage.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) slammed his Lieutenant Gov. Mark Robinson (R) on Monday morning after the latter threatened to use his assault weapons against the government.

“This is dangerous and not who we are as patriotic North Carolinians,” Cooper tweeted with a clip of Robinson’s comments. “@markrobinsonnc’s assault weapon threats are bad enough, but an elected official sworn to uphold the constitution advocating violent overthrow of our [government] shames NC and puts our safety and our democracy at risk.”

The far-right lieutenant governor made the threat during a sermon at MidPoint Church on May 15, per the Charlotte Observer, as he was bragging about owning AR-15s.

“I got them AR-15s in case the government gets too big for its britches,” Robinson declared. “‘Cause I’m gonna fill the backside of those britches with some lead.”

The North Carolina Republican’s speech came a day after an alleged white supremacist fatally shot 10 people in a grocery store in Buffalo, New York using an AR-15 style rifle that the 18-year-old gunman allegedly bought legally.

Here's what I have to say; take up arms against the government and prepare to be gunned down. The next Bundy debacle where arms are pointed at federal agents needs to be put down swiftly, forcefully, and, if they don't lay down their arms, lethally. Not taking these people down hard and fast only encourages them to commit threats and violence in greater numbers.

• Uhde was being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police found him at Roemer’s home on the day of the shooting on Friday, per the Wisconsin attorney general.

• We still don’t know what Uhde’s alleged motive was or why he allegedly had a list of targets that, in addition to Roemer, included Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D), Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R).

A right-wing terrorists at the Jan 6 Republican Insurrection is a leading candidate to be governor of Michigan. He was also just arrested for his part in the insurrection.

FBI agents have arrested one of the leading contenders for the Republican nomination for governor in Michigan over misdemeanor charges related to his actions during the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

Ryan Kelley, a frequent right-wing protest leader who attended the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, was one of the few remaining gubernatorial candidates on the Republican side left standing after a massive signature forgery scandal wiped out the race’s previous slate of top contenders.

“Ryan Kelley, 40, of Allendale, Michigan, was arrested this morning on misdemeanor charges stemming from the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol breach,” Bill Miller, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, said in an email.

“He was arrested in Allendale. Mr. Kelley is to make his initial appearance this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.”

A criminal complaint listed four charges against Kelley: Knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, knowing engaging in any act of physical violence against a person or property in any restricted building or grounds, and willfully injuring or committing any depredation against any property of the United States.

An FBI agent’s affidavit noted that the bureau received “numerous” tips that Kelley had been at the Capitol on Jan. 6, including one just 10 days after the attack. One of the people who identified Kelley was a confidential human source who’d been working with the FBI since 2020 “to provide information about Domestic Terrorism groups in Michigan,” the affidavit said. The source allegedly spotted Kelley on a news media video.

Tristen Snell, who prosecuted Trump University for the NY attorney general's office, thinks there had to be inside information from the Republican side of the aisle.

"There are 658 panes of glass in the ground floors of the Capitol. Only a dozen were not reinforced prior to January 6. The insurrectionists knew EXACTLY where those weak points were," he said. "Because they were given advance help — by pro-Trump members of Congress and their staffs.

This asshole was clearly in on it. So were Bimboebert, Gaetz, and Cawthorn.

The question of the tours exploded in May, less than one month before public hearings by the House Select Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The select committee announced that it had evidence directly contradicting denials by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) of providing tours.

Following the explosive announcement, former acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal advised Loudermilk to lawyer up and take the Fifth Amendment to avoid self-incrimination.

Former federal prosecutor Elie Honig noted that GOP members of Congress could face criminal charges if their denials were false.

On Wednesday, Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) proposed a new conspiracy theory about the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol to CNN reporter Melanie Zanona.

Specifically, Nehls — himself a former sheriff — claimed that the movements of the National Guard on that day suggest that Capitol Police secretly wanted the attack on the Capitol. "I think the Capitol Police didn't have the National Guard here because maybe they just wanted it to happen," he said.

In fact, National Guard officials have made clear from the beginning that it was former President Donald Trump's Department of Defense that was the bottleneck in getting them deployed to help, as NPR reported at the time.

"It took more than three hours for former President Donald Trump's Defense Department to approve a request for the D.C. National Guard to intervene in the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, the commanding general of the outfit told senators on Wednesday," wrote Alana Wise in March 2021. "Maj. Gen. William Walker testified that he had National Guard troops at the ready and sitting idly for hours before he was finally given authorization to send them into the field. Walker said that the delay was caused at least in part over concerns of the optics of sending uniformed troops to the scene." He testified he had received a "frantic call" from Capitol Police hours before that authorization was given.

Nehls, who is running the GOP's "alternative" January 6 investigation effort, was originally one of the members proposed by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to serve on the main select committee.

David Walls-Kaufman, of the Capitol Hill Chiropractic Center, was taken into custody the day before the House Select Committee was scheduled to begin presenting evidence of Donald Trump's involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection, reported NBC News.

Walls-Kaufman was charged with misdemeanor counts of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.

The FBI affidavit shows surveillance photos of Walls-Kaufman taken from nine different security cameras inside the Capitol and from 20 police body cameras, and he was identified by online sleuths in August from images and videos recorded during the riot.

Walls-Kaufman was seen at the front of the mob outside the Speaker's Lobby, where rioter Ashli Babbitt was shot and killed by police as she jumped through a broken window as lawmakers fled.

Metropolitan police officer Jeffrey Smith, who was later struck in the head with a metal pole and punched in the face, and the officer took his life days later -- and police ruled the death as taking place in the line of duty.

Smith's widow has already sued Walls-Kaufman, whose Facebook page shows posts about a number of election-related conspiracy theories.

They caught another right-wing domestic terrorists involved in the Jan 6 Republican Insurrection who is a Naval reservist with top-level security clearance. That's scary.

A Naval reservist who had held a top-level security clearance – along with Nazi sympathies – was arrested Wednesday on misdemeanor charges in connection with the January 6 riot, the Washington Post reported.

In court filings unsealed today, federal prosecutors argued that Hatchet M. Speed posed an “alarming” threat to public safety, the Post reported. Speed faces charges of illegal entry, disorderly conduct and parading in the U.S. Capitol.

Speed met on March 15 with an FBI undercover employee who was presented to him as “a like-minded individual,” according to the statement of facts filed against Speed. In his conversations with the undercover agent, Speed described his participation in the riot, it is alleged.

“SPEED explained that he had hoped that more and more people would have shown up,” the report stated. “It should have gotten to the point where Nancy Pelosi should have resigned out of fear for her life. Federico Klein, a former Trump-appointed State Department aide who was arrested last year for taking part in the January 6 Capitol riots, is facing pushback from his claims that he's being unfairly targeted by federal prosecutors.

CBS News' Scott MacFarlane flags a new court filing made by DOJ lawyers in which they rebut Klein's claims that he's being "selectively prosecuted" by showing a photo that allegedly shows him using a riot shield against law enforcement officers at the United States Capitol.

"Klein and others around him attacked, and attempted to enter, the Capitol as the Vice President, Members of Congress, and thousands of staffers convened inside," DOJ lawyers wrote in the filing. "That conduct, and the 'threat to civilians' it engendered... dispels any inference of disparate treatment."

The DOJ lawyers also rebutted assertions that Klein and his fellow January 6 defendants shouldn't be treated any worse than the left-wing anti-police brutality demonstrators who routinely committed acts of violence and vandalism at the Hatfield Federal Courthouse in Portland, Oregon.

"Although both Portland and Jan 6 rioters attacked federal buildings... the Portland defendants primarily attacked at night, meaning that they raged against a largely vacant courthouse," the DOJ attorneys argued.

They keep trying for this false equivalence because to them overthrowing the electoral process by which a president is chosen is just the same thing as protesting police brutality.  It's a challenge to authority and that's all that matters...the context of individual challenges does not matter.  It's a mindset, not based in legality.

Two of the terrorists who were going to grab Gov. Gretchen Whitmer are being retried.

Two men charged with plotting to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer have been called in for another trial after a trial in April ended with a split jury decision.

Judge Robert Jonker ordered Thursday that Adam Fox, 39, and Barry Croft, 46, will stand before another jury to “weigh the evidence.”

On April 8, jurors in a federal court in Grand Rapids said Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta, two other men allegedly involved in the plot, were not guilty, but didn’t come to a conclusion on whether Fox and Croft are guilty.

All four had been charged with conspiring to kidnap Whitmer from her vacation home in northern Michigan in October 2020, as well as related weapons charges.

Jonker declared a mistrial in Fox’s and Croft’s cases.

After the first jury could not agree on whether the two men are guilty of conspiring to kidnap the governor, Attorney General Dana Nessel said she believed the jury got it wrong.
