The feds get another terrorist affiliated with the right-wing domestic terrorist organization known as the Oath Keepers.

Kellye SoRelle, the Oath Keepers general counsel, is the latest member of the far-right group to face charges related to Jan. 6.

In an indictment released on Thursday, federal prosecutors accused SoRelle of four offenses: tampering with documents, conspiracy, obstruction of a federal proceeding, and misdemeanor trespassing.

It was a bare-bones document, not the kind that told a story about who SoRelle is, or what, exactly, it was that attracted the federal criminal justice system’s attention.

But SoRelle, who also served as general counsel for MAGA group Latinos for Trump, has surfaced at various points in both the investigation of the Oath Keepers and of the Proud Boys, the other extremist group that stormed the Capitol.

SoRelle has also been known for her vocal Twitter presence, in which she maintained her belief that the 2020 election was stolen.

She also advocated for various other conspiracy theories, many of which appear inscrutable to the casual observer.

Oath Keepers Leader Fires Lawyers

Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oath Keepers who’s staring down the barrel of seditious conspiracy charges, axed his defense attorneys on Tuesday due to “a complete, or near-complete breakdown of communication” with them, according to Rhodes’ new attorney. The militia leader also wants to push back his trial, which is scheduled for Sept. 26.

Meanwhile another traitor goes to prison.

Insurrectionist Who Got Ratted Out By Ex-Girlfriend Gets Sentenced

Richard Michetti, the guy who texted his ex-girlfriend as he was storming the Capitol (while calling her a “moron” for not believing the 2020 election was stolen) and was subsequently turned over to the FBI by said ex-girlfriend the very next day, was handed a nine-month prison sentence on Tuesday.

A leak has outed more right-wing domestic terrorists in law enforcement and running for office.

The names of hundreds of U.S. law enforcement officers, elected officials and military members appear on the leaked membership rolls of a far-right extremist group that’s accused of playing a key role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, according to a report released Wednesday.

The Anti-Defamation League Center on Extremism pored over more than 38,000 names on leaked Oath Keepers membership lists and identified more than 370 people it believes currently work in law enforcement agencies — including as police chiefs and sheriffs — and more than 100 people who are currently members of the military.

It also identified more than 80 people who were running for or served in public office as of early August. The membership information was compiled into a database published by the transparency collective Distributed Denial of Secrets.

The data raises fresh concerns about the presence of extremists in law enforcement and the military who are tasked with enforcing laws and protecting the U.S. It’s especially problematic for public servants to be associated with extremists at a time when lies about the 2020 election are fueling threats of violence against lawmakers and institutions.

“Even for those who claimed to have left the organization when it began to employ more aggressive tactics in 2014, it is important to remember that the Oath Keepers have espoused extremism since their founding, and this fact was not enough to deter these individuals from signing up,” the report says.

Appearing in the Oath Keepers’ database doesn’t prove that a person was ever an active member of the group or shares its ideology. Some people on the list contacted by The Associated Press said they were briefly members years ago and are no longer affiliated with the group. Some said they were never dues-paying members.

“Their views are far too extreme for me,” said Shawn Mobley, sheriff of Otero County, Colorado. Mobley told the AP in an email that he distanced himself from the Oath Keepers years ago over concerns about its involvement in the standoff against the federal government at Bundy Ranch in Bunkerville, Nevada, among other things.

I suspect we'll be hearing a lot of denials like that of Sheriff Shawn Mobley.

The U.S. Capitol attack was a crime unlike any in American history. But for some of the defendants accused of crimes related to the riot, it's only been the beginning of their legal troubles.

A CBS News review of U.S. Justice Department court filings shows a growing number of Jan. 6 defendants have been arrested again, for subsequent crimes involving guns, drugs and domestic abuse. The new charges complicate their ability to secure lenient sentences in their cases related to the rioting on Jan. 6, 2021, and they potentially jeopardize attempts by other Capitol riot defendants to secure pretrial releases in their cases.

Is Trump promising to pardon them for all of their crimes? Probably.

University of Maryland law professor Michael Greenberger said the unique politicization of the prosecutions related to Jan. 6, including by former President Donald Trump, increases the risk of recidivism by some of the defendants. Greenberger said the ongoing denials the 2020 election results by some political leaders and the talk of future pardons for Jan. 6 defendants by Trump "leaves these bad actors with little doubt that they will ultimately be forgiven—if not lionized."

Greenberger said, "Reality, however, is likely to settle upon those guys when they are ultimately sentenced or resentenced to many years in jail."

Another judge rules that another terrorist/seditionist is likely ineligible to run.

An Alaska judge ruled on Thursday that Alaska state Rep. David Eastman (R) will likely be found ineligible for office in a lawsuit seeking to oust the Republican over his lifetime membership with the Oath Keepers, a far-right militia group.

Alaska Superior Court Judge Jack McKenna wrote in his ruling that Randall Kowalke, a former Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly member who filed the lawsuit, had shown a “probability of success” in proving that Eastman is barred from holding office under the Alaska Constitution’s “Disqualification for Disloyalty” clause.

That clause mandates that “No person who advocates, or who aids or belongs to any party or organization or association which advocates, the overthrow by force or violence of the government of the United States or of the State shall be qualified to hold any public office of trust or profit under this constitution.”

Kowalke will likely be able to successfully prove at trial that Eastman is an Oath Keeper (one who received a “Life Membership Commemorative Certificate”) and that the Oath Keepers are an organization that’s trying to overthrow the government, the judge wrote.

According to McKenna’s ruling, Kowalke cited some Oath Keepers members’ role in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection and the fact that several members, including leader Stewart Rhodes, have been indicted on sedition charges following the attack.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) might be flip–flopping all over the place as he courts mainstream and far-right Republican voters in his desperate bid for reelection, but there’s at least one position that’s remained consistent for the Wisconsin senator: The Jan. 6 Capitol attack was NBD because the insurrectionists weren’t armed when they stormed the building.

Johnson regurgitated that talking point to downplay Jan. 6 yet again during a Q&A at the Rotary Club of Milwaukee on Tuesday.

“Now, some of the protesters did teach us all how you can use flagpoles, that kind of stuff, as weapons,” the GOP senator quipped.

“But to call what happened on January 6 an armed insurrection … I just think it’s not accurate,” he continued.

It’s been well-established that the attack wasn’t an armed insurrection. However, it was an indisputably violent and deadly event that led to five deaths, and the Capitol Police officers’ union has reported that more than 100 police officers were injured that day.

The Justice Department announced on Thursday night the arrest of an Iowa man who prosecutors allege had sent death threats to an election official in Maricopa County, Arizona.

According to the indictment, 64-year-old Mark A. Rissi of Hiawatha, Iowa, allegedly sent two voicemails to Maricopa County Supervisor Clint Hickman calling for him to be hanged.

“We’re going to hang you,” Rissi allegedly said in a voicemail sent to Hickman in late September 2021. He’d also allegedly called Hickman a “stupid lying Commie” and said that the election official was going to die.

In another voicemail allegedly sent in early December of that year, Rissi allegedly told Hickman: “Do your job” or “you will hang with those [expletive] in the end. We will see to it. Torches and pitchforks. That’s your future, [expletive].” He then accused Hickman of having evidence proving “conspirators” deleted data from the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors computer system, prosecutors allege.

Stewart Rhodes, portrait of a terrorist.

Long before he assembled one of the largest far-right antigovernment militia groups in U.S. history, before his Oath Keepers stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Stewart Rhodes was a promising Yale Law School graduate.

He secured a clerkship on the Arizona Supreme Court after his time as an Army paratrooper was cut short by a training accident. The job was one more rung up from a hardscrabble beginning. But rather than fitting in, Rhodes came across as angry and aggrieved.

Rhodes alienated his moderate Republican boss and eventually left the job. Since then he has ordered his life around a thirst for greatness and deep distrust of government.

He's also a grifting shitbag with delusions of grandeur.

Tasha Adams’ husband called her in a panic. It was December 1998, just six months after they moved from Las Vegas to outside the D.C. Beltway so that her husband could take a job answering donor mail for Rep. Ron Paul, the libertarian Republican from Texas.

Adams says her husband told her he needed “to delete his porn history before the IT guy came in.”

He snuck Adams into Paul’s congressional office as she held their 1-year-old son, “waddling because I was eight months pregnant.” She deleted his porn history, “line by line, hundreds of sites”—even though server logs would have retained a record of any X-rated surfing. Shortly after the cleanup operation, Adams’ husband left his job with no explanation. “It was so quick,” she says.

It was shocking, chaotic, self-destructive behavior—and an episode emblematic of life with her now ex-husband, Elmer Stewart Rhodes, the founder and leader of the Oath Keepers militia.

Adams is not surprised Rhodes is in the dock. Speaking to The Daily Beast by video from her Montana home, Adams says Rhodes is “brilliant”—a graduate of Yale Law School—but also “a master manipulator, a cult leader like Donald Trump.” And, she adds, he’s “prone to conspiracism and delusions that he would do great and important things.”

Adams says the mind games Rhodes played on her were similar to how he manipulated individual Oath Keepers.

“He uses people to get to his place in life,” says Adams.

From the time they started dating in 1991, when Adams was an 18-year-old ballroom dance instructor in Las Vegas, she was an easy mark for Rhodes. “I felt guilty about having a warm, loving childhood. Stewart was very intelligent and very assertive. I was looking for those things. But he also had control issues, jealousy issues. I thought I could fix him.”

Rhodes treated her like an ATM. Adams says he pressured her to turn over her college fund of $4,600 so he could buy a 1967 red Camaro convertible after totalling his own car. He pressured Adams to work as a cocktail waitress, where the uniforms “were G-strings and fishnet tights and everyone slaps you on the ass.” He later pushed her to become a topless stripper, and would grab money out of her hand when he picked her up. “I thought, ‘He’s acting like a pimp.’”

While in D.C., Rhodes fell further down the rabbit hole. He met Gary North—a writer on free market economics and Christian Reconstructionism—in Paul’s office. North warned him about the coming Y2K disaster, predicting the global economy would crash at the stroke of midnight of the year 2000, as computers couldn’t process the date change. Once he was back in Vegas, Rhodes spent the rest of 1999 preparing for the end of the world by buying a trailer and stuffing it with “tons of food, clothing, weapons, fuel.”

When the world didn’t end, Rhodes moved the date. “Oh, the real Y2K is in two weeks,” Adams recalls her husband saying. “Then it’s ‘Y2K will be next year.’ It’s like QAnon. ‘The Storm’ will be in two weeks.” Adams says their children nicknamed him “King of the Apocalypse.”

And the Oath Keeper sheep were just lining up to be sheared.

After the election of President Obama, Rhodes’ article went viral and was enthusiastically received by the new Tea Party movement. He held the first muster on April 19, 2009, with a mass swearing-in for the Oath Keepers at Lexington, Massachusetts, where the first shot was fired in the American Revolution exactly 234 years earlier. Their flamboyance, warning of a “looming second revolutionary war,” drew media attention.

Soon, Oath Keepers’ dues were rolling in, directly to Rhodes, says Adams, who “spent freely on custom weapons, expensive clothing, over 100 pairs of shoes, 100-dollar steak dinners at the Denver airport.” Adams also claims Rhodes dropped dues money “on hookers” and about $65,000 to sponsor Jeffrey Earnhardt in NASCAR races. Meanwhile, she and her six children ate “dehydrated apple slices and canned oatmeal.”

He's a serious attention whore, just like his buddy Trump.

Not long after the Oath Keepers was launched, Chris Matthews said to Rhodes on-air that “people think you’re crazy.” But Rhodes was “addicted to the media attention,” from the likes of FOX News, MSNBC, and CNN, according to Adams. And yet, he was also “unhappy that he didn’t get enough attention or the coverage wasn’t to his liking.”

To get his fix, Rhodes gravitated further toward far-right extremism. He talked of the Oath Keepers becoming “one of the most significant militias in the country,” predicted “civil war,” and called on active-duty soldiers to revolt.

McCarthy lies, lies, and lies again. He's a good German.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy claimed during a meeting with two Capitol Police officers who defended the Capitol on Jan. 6 that President Donald Trump didn’t understand the severity of the violence that was unfolding as he waited hours to call off his supporters.

Public comments, testimony and reporting from that day established almost immediately after the insurrection that Trump in fact spent the afternoon planted in front of the television, watching as his supporters ransacked the Capitol and assaulted those trying to defend it.

“I’m just telling you from my phone call, I don’t know that he did know that,” McCarthy told the officers, describing his call with Trump on Jan. 6.

The June 2021 meeting was attended by McCarthy, former Capitol Police officer Michael Fanone, Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn, and Gladys Sicknick, the mother of Capitol Police officer Brain Sicknick, who died following the attack. The three were urging McCarthy to take seriously a congressional investigation of Jan. 6.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Robert Maverick Vargo, age 25, of Berwick, Pennsylvania, was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of threatening the President of the United States, interstate communications with a threat, and influencing a federal official by threat.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the indictment alleges that on October 11, 2022, United States Congressman Bennie Thompson’s office received a letter from Vargo at the Rayburn House Office Building, Washington DC, containing threats to kill Representative Thompson, his family, President Joseph Biden, and U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani alluding to “Anthrax,” and containing what appeared to be a white powder.

Representative Thompson is serving his fifteenth term as the Congressman representing the second Congressional District in Mississippi. Representative Thompson is the Chairman of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.

The letter specifically referenced Congressman Thompson’s role with the January 6 Select Committee and states “Im going to kill you! I will make you feel the rest of our pain & suffering. There is nowhere or nobody who can keep you from me. I am going to kill you & those you love. I promise you that I will keep my promise until the day of my death.” The letter goes on to state, “You & Joe Biden soon will face death for the wrongs you’ve done to US.”

A terrorist sympathizer who provided aid and comfort to the Jan 6 Republican insurrectionists in real time when he was supposed to be protecting democracy. That makes him among the worst.

A former US Capitol police officer on trial for allegedly telling a January 6, 2021, rioter to delete evidence related to the attack also told the rioter he thought some of the “agitators” that day were Antifa, according to prosecutors.

A day after the attack, officer Michael Riley allegedly told the now convicted rioter Jacob Hiles in a private Facebook message to “(t)ake down the part” about being in the Capitol building after Hiles made a Facebook post stating “I very simply made my way through the building.”

“I’m a capitol police officer who agrees with your political stance,” Riley allegedly wrote before telling Hiles to delete his Facebook posts, adding that people who entered the Capitol that day were being investigated.

“Just looking out!” Riley wrote, according to court documents.

Riley faces two counts of obstruction to which he has pleaded not guilty. Hiles pleaded guilty to unlawfully protesting in the Capitol in September 2021. He was sentenced to 24 months of probation.

The day after the attack, Hiles allegedly sent a message to Riley that he thought January 6 “was all a set up.”

During opening statements Tuesday, assistant US attorney Mary Dohrmann told the jury that Riley “knew his fellow officers had been assaulted and attacked trying to protect the Capitol,” yet still worked to delete evidence related to the attack.

I'd agree with that assessment.  Bannon has always been a strategist.  Dumpster is an impulse shopper and "useful idiot", with no emotional control.
