• They also found duct tape, according to CNN and ABC News.

• The alleged attacker, David DePape, faces charges of attempted murder, elder abuse, burglary, and other crimes connected to the attack, according to San Francisco Police Chief William Scott.

• DePape, who had regularly posted far-right conspiracy theories online, allegedly targeted Pelosi’s home specifically to find the House speaker, shouting “Where’s Nancy?” when he broke into the house. The California Democrat wasn’t home at the time.

• Pelosi’s son, Paul Pelosi Jr., signaled on Saturday that his father was still on track for a full recovery, telling reporters “So far, so good.” Paul Pelosi is recovering in the hospital after surgery for a skull fracture from the assault.

In the talk o' sphere people are arguing about whether this episode should be described as an attempt on Nancy Pelosi's life or an attack on Paul Pelosi.  Given what the police have released it sounds to me like this guy wanted Nancy Pelosi, maybe to kidnap her...zip ties?...no mention of a firearm. To me this was an attempt to do "something" bad to Nancy Pelosi and should be characterized as this.  The fact that Nancy Pelosi was not home does not make this any less an attempt to do her some harm.

Attempted kidnaping is one of the charges against the guy who invaded the Pelosi house.

After he was taken into custody, DePape allegedly said he planned to “hold Nancy hostage and talk to her,” according to the charging papers. “If Nancy were to tell ‘the truth,' he would let her go, and if she ‘lied’ he was going to break ‘her kneecaps’,” the charging papers said.

In the confession, which authorities say was recorded, DePape allegedly claimed he was certain Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) would not tell the truth. According to the affidavit filed by an FBI agent, DePape allegedly claimed Nancy Pelosi was the “leader of the pack” of lies told by the Democratic Party, and that if he broke her kneecaps “she would then have to be wheeled into Congress, which would show other Members of Congress there were consequences to actions.” DePape allegedly told authorities he was “tired from having had to carry a backpack to the home,” so he had “wanted to tie [Paul] Pelosi up” so he could sleep.

DePape also claimed that he wanted to “use Nancy to lure another individual” to him, the affidavit said, without identifying who that other individual might be.

The semi organized part of the right wing that put the 1/6 event together relied on dudes like this one.  Not hired assassins, but folks that drink the Koolaid and decide to act on the conspiracy theory.  Cheaper that way and harder to infiltrate from a law enforcement perspective.

By midday Tuesday, Tenney appeared to have altogether deleted the post without explanation, Rupar later noted.

There has been almost NOTHING done to deter other would be assassins from killing Democratic officials. When people protested outside homes of SCOTUS justices, security was immediately increased. Dead silence now. 3/n

The difference is that Dems and Republicans are willing to protect conservative officials, but Republicans aren't willing to protect Dems, because they know that actual violence against officials is driven by the right wing base. 4/n

In the world of Twitter lying just having the falsehood up for a few hours is enough to get it to the people who are outraged that Nancy Pelosi exists.  Taking it down is just part of the game or at least it was before Musk took over.  It used to be an attempt to avoid being banned from Twitter. The New Mexico Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal from “Cowboys for Trump” founder Couy Griffin to overturn a decision that barred him from holding public office for life under the 14th Amendment’s Disqualification Clause.

Griffin was arrested and convicted for entering restricted areas at the Capitol on Jan, 6, 2021. At the time, he was serving as a commissioner of Otero County, New Mexico, where he was elected in 2018. But residents began pushing to have him removed from office in 2021 for a number of reasons, including allegedly using his position to promote Cowboys for Trump.

On Sept. 6, a federal judge ruled that Griffin was disqualified from holding public office under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which prohibits anyone who “hold any office, civil or military, under the United States” from engaging in “insurrection or rebellion” against the country — marking the first time a public official has been ousted under the clause since 1869.

Griffin appealed the decision to the New Mexico Supreme Court on Sept. 20; the case was dismissed on Tuesday afternoon on procedural grounds. The Supreme Court ruled that Griffin failed to follow proper appeals procedures.

“This is an affirmation that Section 3 of the 14th Amendment can and should be enforced against all the January 6th insurrectionists who took an oath to defend the Constitution, whether they are current or former officeholders,” CREW senior vice president Donald Sherman said in a statement, “Today is an important day for our democracy.”

The terrorists are fired up in Arizona for not being handed the victories they demanded. What an odd way to stand up for "democracy."

Maricopa County Supervisor Bill Gates has confirmed that he moved to an undisclosed location for his safety after security concerns connected to the 2022 midterm elections.

Deputies from the sheriff's office are also providing a security detail, officials said.

Gates, a Republican and one of the leaders of the Maricopa County Elections Department, has been a fierce defender of the county's election system and an outspoken critic of false claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

In a similar vein, Gates has continued to defend the county against continued claims of fraud during the midterms. Some have focused on an issue with printers on Election Day that led to numerous tabulation machines being unable to read some ballots.

His stance has caused a slew of backlash online and in person. Some people were seen launching verbal attacks on Gates during a meeting with the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors earlier this week.

Other county officials have reported receiving calls they considered threatening from campaign volunteers.

There has been no evidence of widespread fraud or manipulation of voting machines in 2020 or during this year’s midterm elections.
