Hit them up for wrongful death for every Covid misinformation that cost lives. slap them with incitement to violence. Anything that has a basis in fact. Sue the bejesus out of them.

A Calamitous Day At The ‘Fair And Balanced’ Network
I’m not sure longtime Fox News critics and observers could have imagined a day like Tuesday ever coming to pass. The cable news net’s lies, fabrications, bamboozlement, and misinformation all came home to roost in spectacular fashion.

On a day that not so long ago would have seen Fox News preening over its top star’s bogus Monday night segment downplaying the Jan. 6 attack, Rupert Murdoch’s baby was instead lambasted by Republicans and law enforcement and humiliated by more revelations from the titanic defamation case pending against it.

Tuesday marked a collision between the Dominion Voting Systems $1.2 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News over its Big Lie claims during the 2020 election and the network’s latest Big Lie: that Jan. 6 was a hoax, a peaceful saunter of the citizenry through the halls of the Capitol. One Big Lie begat another, both centered on the 2020 election and its aftermath. All in service of Donald Trump, its own ratings, and the warped worldview that sustains a propaganda network for more than quarter of a century.

In the end though, what was most striking about yesterday was Fox News starting to eat its own. No one deserves it more than the personalities, hosts, and would-be journalists who populate the Fox News shows.

Fox v. Fox!
In a remarkable segment Tuesday night, Fox News host Bret Baier and congressional reporter Chad Pergram effectively counter-programmed Tucker Carlson’s Jan. 6 whitewash from the night before.

The segment starts off as you might expect, touting Carlson’s “new” surveillance video containing images that “were hidden from the public for more than two years.” But then you can almost hear the tires screeching and the gears grinding as Baier hits the breaks and reverses course, kicking it to a pre-recorded report from Pergram on the Hill, where pushback was fierce all day.

The segment ends with an amazing and hilarious “to be sure” closing from Baier: “And to be clear, no one here at Fox News condones any of the violences that happened on Jan. 6.”
Gretchen Carlson Was Having None Of It

The fiercest reaction to the Baier segment came from Gretchen Carlson, the former host of the rancid Fox & Friends morning show who left the network in 2016 after she sued longtime Fox News boss Roger Ailes for sexual harassment. Ailes resigned soon after and died less than a year later. Fox settled Gretchen Carlson’s case for $20 million and a public apology. Gone yesterday was Carlson’s ex-pageant queen “Minnesota nice,” replaced with the kind of salty language you’d have expected from Ailes himself:

The Justice Department argued on Tuesday that Jan. 6 defendants shouldn’t be allowed to delay their upcoming criminal trials based on speculation that the 40,000-plus hours of security footage House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) recently made available exclusively to Fox News’s Tucker Carlson might contain exculpatory evidence.

“The United States does not know the extent of any material that a member of the legislative branch purportedly provided to other individuals,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean McCauley wrote in a court filing for the Jan. 6 defendant Ryan Nichols’ case. “This Court should not commit to an indefinite trial extension for this Defendant, or for any defendants, based on the unsupported allegation that pertinent information may exist somewhere, but is not currently known to either the prosecution or the defense.”

The filing is one of the Justice Department’s first attempts to minimize the possibility of Jan. 6 defendants using the footage Tucker Carlson airs to drag out their criminal cases.

The court filing came shortly after Nichols’ attorney asked the U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth to delay the late March trial in order to give Nichols’ defense team time to review the footage. The Justice Department submitted a similar filing in Jan. 6 defendant Shane Jenkins’ case in response to a request from Jenkins to delay the trial in order to review footage.

DOJ lawyers pushed back, arguing that the defense team had access to a “voluminous discovery” — more than 4.91 million files — for nearly two years.

“The Government’s discovery obligations in a criminal case are properly limited to materials that are potentially relevant to a defendant’s case in the government’s possession or control, and the government is not obliged to acquire materials possessed or controlled by others,” McCauley wrote, adding the trial shouldn’t be delayed “based on speculation about whether and when any such additional, likely irrelevant, information may become available.”

Prosecutors also backed up ongoing warnings from Democrats about the security risks of sharing the footage, arguing that widely releasing all security footage could “reveal the U.S. Capitol’s internal surveillance system to third parties” and “jeopardize the privacy and security of certain persons depicted on such CCV footage.”

Fox News believes that its own viewers are "uninformed simpletons" — and is constantly working to pander to them, but powerless to truly control them, argued former right-wing media consultant and The Young Turks contributor Matthew Sheffield in a Twitter thread on Thursday.

A Fox News producer filed two lawsuits against the company on Monday accusing the news giant’s lawyers of pressuring her into giving misleading testimony as part of the ongoing $1.6 billion defamation suit by Dominion Voting Systems.
The New York Times reported that Abby Grossberg, a producer who worked for Fox News hosts Maria Bartiromo and Tucker Carlson, filed the suits in New York and Delaware. In the complaints, Grossberg alleges Fox News attorneys pressured her to avoid mentioning prominent male executives and on-air talent to protect them in the Dominion lawsuit. She also claimed the lawyers planned to see her and Bartiromo take the blame for any conspiracy theories that aired on Fox News about Dominion, saying it was part of a widespread culture of misogyny at the network.

“One of my sources who recently left, and recently completely dismayed with the organization, was there for over a decade and started when things were not what they are now, and left just thinking, ‘Wow, my career is in the toilet,’” recounts Falzone. “And any time this source went for a job in media, because [the hiring managers] saw the number of years there, assumed that this person was along those very, very right ideologies, [and] was not able to get hired and had to figure out something else to do.”

“Many sources I speak to that have recently left are finding themselves out of work and having to go outside of media to be able to make ends meet for their families,” she adds.

Faux News just gets hit with one of the large defamation settlements in history and have to admit that they lied about the election being stolen, a lie that literally drove an insurrection in the U.S., but you wouldn't know that if that's where you get your "news" from. Not a peep from them. Not one.

After being forced to cough up a ton of cash to avoid even more embarrassment, Faux decided to cut its risk.

MAGA diehard and serial blowhard Dan Bongino is no longer a Fox News star, Forbes first reported on Thursday morning.

“We thank Dan for his contributions and wish him success in his future endeavors,” the network wrote in a statement confirming the end of Bongino’s Saturday evening show, Unfiltered with Dan Bongino, along with his Fox Nation show, Canceled in the USA.

“The show ending last week was tough,” Bongino said on his podcast Thursday morning, confirming he’s done at Fox News. The Trump-boosting pundit, who has long been a proponent of election denialism, also noted that the “timing’s not great” considering the network’s recent $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems.

“It’s not some big conspiracy theory, I promise you. There’s no acrimony,” Bongino declared. “We just couldn’t come to terms on an extension. That’s really it.”
