It might not be a bad idea for us to have this thread as a general "Who's Who" for reference.
About Your New Admin:
- Lived in Flori-DUH for my teen years and much of my adult life. I've spent the last 2+ decades in the northern part of the state, where I've been in and out of scientific academia. I consider myself more-or-less retired from the workforce at this point.
- I'm of that age cohort that's too young to be considered a "Classic" Baby Boomer, but too old to be lumped in with GenX. Or as I've often put it, old enough to remember Vietnam and Watergate, but too young to remember JFK.
- Politically, I have considered myself an "independent", as my position on one issue isn't necessarily related to my position on a different issue. I see LOTS of gray -- maybe not fifty shades worth, though.
- Married twice, one kid by each husband. The one by That Jerk, Dear Daughter, holds a BA in Theatre Arts and is making her home base here while she looks for her first "real" job outside of summer stock. The one by Chem PhD, Dear Son, is in high school and is far, far more athletically-minded than either of his parents.
- "Bacteriology" is an older name for Microbiology -- a username of "Micro PhD" was too open to interpretation.

New member here. I got to 'know' you all while reading Sullivan's blog and followed you to TRS - too cowardly/shy/busy/slothful to actually join the forum. I jealously guard my privacy so here is limited 'who am I' info
- Not born on this continent
- Politically on the left, I mourn the loss of sensible conservatism - I could respect that even as I disagreed with policy choices
- Oh .... forgot ...... I am old enough to remember Kennedy .... cried like a baby when he died. To the rest of the world it seemed the end of a golden era; I was young - what can I say

Welcome, Islander! I started out as a lurker on the old Frum Forum of the late 'aughts/early 2010s. Glad you're on for the ride. We don't bite...really.
This new site is still a work in progress. Please feel free to offer suggestions or start a new thread.

Hi Bact - thanks for the welcome and thanks for the colour change - it was a bit hard on the eyes.
I've had a very small private Proboards since about '07 and have been through many versions with PB so it's changed a lot from the old days in the Admin area. I moved from an old hosting site that was falling apart to PB and with the help of members we copy pasta'd all the posts to our new digs. I wouldn't recommend it.
PB has an Admin guide here which I found unhelpful tl;dr as most of the bells and whistles behind the curtain are fairly intuitive. They also have a support site here which is where I suspect one of your more tech minded members could get the help you need to migrate the old TRS to the new TRS if it's possible. I'm a non-tech and most, no - I lie - all explanations go whizzing over my head.
With respect to attachments - and I only speak to what happens on my forum - each attachment is limited to 1 MB and the forum total must not exceed 200B; I ask my members to reduce the attachment size as much as possible - you can delete old attachments in the Admin area to free up space.
The only other way to post pics is through the insert image button above and the image must have a URL. The coding no longer works on my forum with Photobucket since they moved to an App platform and I couldn't be bothered to take it up with Proboards or figure it out myself. This is the only drawback to Proboards of which I'm aware.
I never read Frum but I remember his Mum very well and with great fondness - listened to her voice every night on CBC until she died.

Hi @islander . Welcome. I also tend to be private and don't divulge too much. Thanks, Bact PhD for the color change. I like this apricot color. Quite restful on the eyes. One thing I remember about PB is one can either respond with the obvious 'quick reply', or go to 'reply' on the upper right for all the bells and whistles. ps... can we eventually get rid of 'edit' notations, or put a time limit on them? If I'm posting, I'm editing.

Hi all,
golden_valley is here but pro boards won't let me use the_.
How do I set the font when I first post? I see it in the edit function but not at the initial post.

If I may - goldenvalley I'm posting this in the Quick Reply box just below your post - to tweak the look of this post I'd either go straight to the Reply page (see button in top right corner of the Quick Reply bar) or finish my post here and then go to the Reply page for tweaking.
I'm now in the Create Post page and at the top I can change the font face to one of 8 listed, change the font size (this is 3), change the colour, indent, add smileys etc. If you know the keyboard abbreviations you can add the smiley so ; ) becomes . Some of these changes can be your default (font face, font size and colour) in your Edit Profile page if to save you changing it every time you post.
Also there are two tabs at the bottom of the Create Post box - the default tab is Preview and the other is BB code. I very rarely use BB code ubless I'mm having a problem with my post and need to see the coding behind it.
Hope this helps

Alas, I have been trying to adjust my defaults in the Profile Editor for the last little while and have hit a roadblock. I can EITHER set the default to "display as BBCode", put in my desired default font settings in the little box, and have everything display in BBCode when I try to post...and get the font I want in "Quick Reply", OR I can set the default to "display as Preview" and adjust the font every time I post using "Create Post" and not have it in "Quick Reply" mode. What am I missing?

As far as I am aware, Bact, the default font is universal and can only be changed at the individual level. You did everything correctly but it does mean that you will be taken to the BBCode tab in order to keep your personal default font. It's a small matter to click the Preview tab at the bottom of the Create Post box - which is what I do on my own forum.
Sorry I took so long to reply - I'd been switching back and forth between here and my forum as it's been a looooooong time since I've pulled any PB levers
When I first started the forum I made a lot of different 'skins' and I thought I could set the default font per skin. When I have a moment to check I'll see what I did. Proboards made a lot a changes a few years back and it's not as flexible as it once was.

OK, I changed the default in the profile. HOWEVER, to get this font setup in full post-writing I still had to use the drop-down menu when writing in "preview" mode. I'll see what happens in "Quick Reply" mode next.

Interestingly, here in Quick Reply, my font size and style choices show up in code. Now, will they once I post?
Answer: YES. It looks like if I use the "preview" tab to write, I have to manually set the font size & style.

Yes and no, Bact. The coding for your selected default shows in the BBCode tab but the cursor is at the end of the coding instead of being enclosed by it. Which is why I always start my post in the Quick Reply box and move to the Create Post box to add smileys, links, embedded pics etc as I always forget to check where the cursor is if I go straight to the Create Post in Preview mode
If the picture is too small to read, click on it *crosses fingers, hope it works*

"HEEEERE'S Donnie!!!!" and all that Jazz. It's 0915 BST. I set myself up on here ten hours ago. I haven't decided yet how much of a factual striptease I'll do; all this is so sudden . . . .
Greetings to one and all.

I made it to the new board. Who is passing the hat for contributions? I’m floating things for the time being. My thought is that the migration should be closer to complete so I know how many ways to split the tab. FYI: On an annual subscription basis, the actual cost per year to keep this space ad-free is $72.

The only other way to post pics is through the insert image button above and the image must have a URL. Oh, bugger. I have these occasional urges to post Bitmoji caricatures of me as "better smileys". Can't see my way forward yet; I've always used jpgs or whatever. More of this anon.
