Putin is chest thumping and waving his dick nukes around as his non-military losses mount. He's losing it over Sweden and Finland appearing very much interested in joining NATO. For most it would be a pretty obvious that it's not a great move trying to threaten two nations into not joining an alliance that your threats already scared them towards. So much for carrots and sticks. All Putin has is sticks, sort of a twist on "when the only tool you have is a hammer then every problem is viewed as a nail."

This article makes two major points. First, Putin manages everything in a "stovepipe" so assumptions and messaging from those supposedly in lines of command who are trying to figure out what is going on are making a lot of assumptions. Second, this is the first major war Putin has waged with real-time social media documenting everything. His propaganda machine can't remotely keep up and so in terms of messaging Russia is always on its heels.
This part sounds a lot like Trump who also demands loyalty and obsequiousness above reality and truth.

Putin's war and the West's reactions to it continue to crush Russia's economy. I wonder if he even knows how bad it is in the streets since he sequesters himself away from that and has cut free advisers who might tell him. If he knew would he even care?

How would that affect Pres Trump's debt to the Russians (and Deutche Bank) ? Trump no longer being indebted to Putin, but to American banks? Hmm...

It's not just American "Christian" leaders who are driving people away from their religions. It's amazing how mass murder of innocent civilians on a massive scale can open up some, but of course not all, people's eyes. It makes you wonder if much of Christianity around the world is going to take the same path as the American evangelicalism and the Republican Party, attracting only the immoral dregs who worship power rather than Jesus. Looking at the history of it going back to Constantine it wouldn't be a departure. Actually it would be interesting to see how many years since it was wielded as a political force used to persecute the "non-faithful." My guess is a pretty high percentage of the time.

Beau spoke to some people he relies on for economic info and interpretations about the sanctions and the economy in Russia. The upshot is that there isn't a lot of agreement because the situation in Russia doesn't really have precedence but it does sound like there's a bit of agreement that there's been quite a bit of damage done already and it's being covered up by creative bookkeeping, something that can't last forever. The big disagreement is around what happens when Russia's hard debt default date comes. It's an interesting watch.

This series of tweets explains the Russian cultural elites' (not just Putin) attitude towards Ukraine. It discusses their poets, some of the most highly regarded artists in Russian culture. Ukraine is apparently not real, Ukrainians are really Russians or inferior, it's run by Nazis, and on and on. And this war didn't arise over the past few month, it's been on it's way for years. The "reasoning" is eerily reminiscent of the angry white males rising up here in America. Whites and white culture are superior and those who don't accept this are Nazis libruls bent on the destruction of the nation.

Not surprising...true Russians superior, glorious past, corrupted by evil inferior people. Just change the national identity...German, American, Japanese...

Russia is scaring off one of their biggest customers. They may be doing more to drive renewables forward than they realized when they decided to take Ukraine. I wonder if Saudi Arabia will continue to do the same to aid their investment in Jared and the Trumps.

In a shocking development, two Russian oligarchs—Vladislav Avayev and Sergei Protosenya—and their families were found dead in Russia and Spain, respectively, within a span of 24 hours last week. The police are investigating whether these were a case of murder or murder-suicide. The close timing of their deaths raised several questions; cops are probing if Avayev and Protosenya were in contact before their demise. On February 28, millionaire Mikhail Watford, who built his fortune in oil and gas, was found dead in his residence in Surrey, England. Oligarchs "committing suicide" and others dying suddenly? I guess Putin needs their wealth to fund the war effort and they likely wouldn't be ready to sign over billions of dollars out of patriotism. I suspect that the oligarchs who have supported him and are still alive are doing some serious recalculation of their own personal risk.

Rebels in the Transnistria region of Moldova (yeah, I had to look it up) have apparently now made several attacks on Russian troops. They see Putin's weakness and are taking advantage. I have no idea what kind of forces they have but the last thing Russia wants is to have to send support to another front.
With Russia's military performance so far and the flood of arms coming to Ukraine I don't see them holding 400+ miles of coastline to reach Transnistria.

Russia is sabre rattling about nukes, WW III, and may be opening up a new front in Moldova. I guess this is what it sounds like when you're failing to meet your objectives.
I don't think anybody saw this much support coming for Ukraine, especially Putin, but he's now raised a lot of fears and security concerns. I guess everybody just wants to shut this shit down in Ukraine and keep it from cropping up closer to them in another 5-20 years.
Russia really has a serious mess on their hands and no good options other than the obvious one which Putin will never agree to. What a cluster-f***.

If Putin becomes desperate will he unleash the nukes? Given the reports of poor maintenance on equipment who knows if he can actually launch anything.

Probably not a good idea to assume that he can't. It may just be sword rattling but there's no denying that it's a sword.

There have been reports of Putin having an oncologist in his midst. If you want to go out in a blaze of glory, as the most significant human in history, what better way than ENDING human history.

So "If I can't stick around then nobody can?" Sounds like the ancient Egyptian pharaohs though they limited themselves to some finite number of animals, slaves, and maybe a few family members.

Does the Russian Orthodox church have their own version of 72 Virgins?
