They don't care that it's a lie, in fact that makes it more functional. It's just their way of saying people with dark skin are taking over and ruining white Murica - "We don't like it, and neither should you. And we will do what is necessary to prevent it." 'Legal' or 'illegal' really has nothing to do with it, though it helps to expand their appeal to more people.
It's about both getting more attention, while also distracting/channeling attention from Trump's poor debate performance. It gives the addled Trump something to sink his teeth into and to fall back on so he doesn't have to remember facts.
It's all an extension of Nixon's oldie but goodie Southern Strategy to excite the racists, and to get them out to vote. Will it work? It's apparently still close. 'The Emails' did it for him in '16.

Shooting yourself in the foot Chapter MCMDLXVII. One more for the "you can't make this up" GOP file. Kamala Harris ties Mark Robinson around Trump's neck in brutal new North Carolina adNew reporting revealed that the Republican lieutenant governor had called himself a "black NAZI," claimed "slavery is not bad," recalled spying on unwitting women showering and graphically described his sexual experiences and fantasies on an online smut forum, and the Harris campaign responded by airing an ad in the state showing all the times Trump heaped praise on his favored candidate for governor. "I think you're better than Martin Luther King," Trump says in the ad. The ad also highlights Robinson's strong opposition to abortion and his misogynistic comments. "Abortion in this country, it's about killing the child because you aren't responsible enough to keep your skirt down," Robinson says in a video clip in the ad. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/kamala-harris-ties-mark-robinson-around-trump-s-neck-in-brutal-new-north-carolina-ad/ar-AA1qV87u?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=HCTS&cvid=6d4374eb137f421f8468eaa7f29f3fb3&ei=37

But I still think NC will go for Trump in the presidential race while Robinson goes down narrowly. He's another guy who is "authentic" and "tells it like it is" in the view of some voters so he won't go down in flames. Of course my crystal ball has been cloudy and cracked for about 8 years now so take my sentences for what they're worth...

This will be another case of needing to take them seriously, but not literally. Vance as much as admitted it when he said basically he doesn't care if it's true if it gets attention to this "serious" problem of illegal aliens.

Yes. He is a man with zero principles and is going all out. He sees he is a sliver away from actually being president of the US. He is the VP nominee to an old man who is failing both mentally and physically. If Trump does win this still close election, will Trump survive the full 4 years? If not, for Vance, this prize will have been worth dying on this hill. For this True Believer, it is the chance of a lifetime. As they say - Sin Boldly. And he is.

More from the (ad)Vance guard of "Stupid is as Stupid does" contingent. JD Vance says allegations against Mark Robinson 'aren't necessarily reality'LEESPORT, Pa. — Sen. JD Vance on Saturday reacted for the first time to the bombshell report about Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for governor in North Carolina, saying that the allegations against Robinson "aren't necessarily reality."
“The allegations are pretty far out there, of course, but I know that allegations aren’t necessarily reality,” Vance said of Robinson’s reported comments on a porn site. In Vance's interview with NBC Philadelphia, he said that it is "ultimately up to Mark Robinson and North Carolina whether he’s going to be their governor and whether he wants to stay in the race." Robinson years ago made comments on a porn website where he called himself a "black NAZI," expressed support for slavery and referred to Martin Luther King Jr. with a racial slur, among other remarks, according to a CNN report published Thursday www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/jd-vance-says-allegations-against-mark-robinson-aren-t-necessarily-reality/ar-AA1qYkNY?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=HCTS&cvid=52d6b95d69c1488abb31b1d95d8ba2a7&ei=92

And yet a good number of Robinson's own staff just quit. You'd think they would be in a better position to judge what is or is not true than Mr. Vance.

It hasn't seemed to matter ever since then. I personally struggle with these issues. When the Lewinsky thing came out I saw a consensual affair which was adulterous on one party's part. But I believed that's an issue between spouses, not a national one. Now I see in both Trump's situation and this guy Robinson something that seems to me to be a deeper, more psychologically damaged sort of issue that makes me question their fitness for office. If that's a double standard, then yes it is. I don't feel hypocritical but maybe I should?

Trump stock down to 12.12 today. Perhaps as good as a more traditional poll. Numbers is numbers.

Just when you think it can't get any lower... A "hold my beer" moment. ‘Sickening’ Chant Breaks Out Against Legal Immigrants At Donald Trump RallyThe audience at Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign rally in Indiana, Pennsylvania, on Monday erupted in applause and chanted, “Send them back,” after the former president said some immigrants — who are in America with legal immigration status — will be deported if he beats Democratic rival Kamala Harris and wins back the White House in November. Trump whipped up the crowd with his inflammatory claims that some states are being “inundated” with migrants and that some cities will “never be the same” because of it. “Do you think Springfield will ever be the same?” the Republican nominee asked, referring to the Ohio city that’s become a focal point of the election following his and running mate JD Vance’s baseless claims that residents’ pets are being eaten by Haitian migrants, who are actually there with temporary legal protected status www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/sickening-chant-breaks-out-against-legal-immigrants-at-donald-trump-rally/ar-AA1r6fkf?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=HCTS&cvid=5eb894d6058442a6b03c424bf1050c56&ei=22

Well, I know what the polls and media are saying but the only question left in this election to me is if the groups who say they are going to vote actually turn out and vote. Women prefer Harris by 20+ points. Asian Americans favor Harris by 30+ points (and enthusiasm among that group is the highest ever recorded by the 2024 AAPI Voter Survey). Under 30 voters prefer her by 30+ points and 75% of the Democratic voters in that group SAY they are going to vote versus 60% for the Republicans in that age group. And, before we discount that too much, let's note that in 2020 50% of people in that age group voted versus 39% in 2016, a pretty remarkable 11 point increase and we saw the result. Similarly, in 1992 and 2008, that group turned out at 50%. Those are the only three times since 1980 that the 18-29 group has reached 50%. In 1992 Clinton won by 202 EC votes; 2008 Obama won by 102 EC votes; and in 2012 Biden won by 74 EC votes.
Just need another 50%+ turnout in that group and it will likely be a rout with results approximating the 2008 election in terms of electoral college (still think FL is a loss this year vs win in 2008--even though there was poll out yesterday showing only Trump+1--but those 27 would likely be made up by GA +15 and AZ +10, both of which were red in 2008) and Senate will be 50-50 minimum and House would flip. This group is probably the key to Tester holding his seat in Montana and Montana is actually a state where that group does turn out pretty well, 56% in 2020 so it would most likely be 51-49 or better in senate. It is also worth noting that abortion is on the ballot in Montana and Florida so Senate seats are definitely gettable in those states.
Also, BTW, another really interesting but related data point: Wapo (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/09/24/kamala-harris-younger-donors/) details that Harris's individual donors are, on average, 9 years younger than Biden's were and, also on average, are only 58% registered democrats. Of course, there are also a lot more of them.

Using President Trump's playbook against "crooked media". Or...following the legacy of the Trump Administration Mark Robinson Hires Longtime Trump Lawyer To ‘Hold CNN Accountable’Embattled North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson has hired a firm founded by a longtime Trump lawyer to investigate CNN’s report detailing years of racially insensitive and lewd comments on pornography sites by a username linked to the GOP candidate. In Florida alone, if true, it is reported that there are 500,000 individuals of Haitian affiliation that, for some reason, seem quite motivated to vote this year.
Also in FL, both abortion and pot are on the ballot. While 'the youth' usually disappoint in terms of actually voting, if many see something affecting their own lives at stake, maybe this time they will indeed turn out.
A little here, a little there, it all adds up. But in Florida this year? Maybe I'll bet some of my DJT stock on it, lol.

Another interesting data point about 18-29 age group: As I said in 2020 they turned out at about 50% (vs 66% overall). And as I also mentioned that is only one of three elections they have managed to do that since 1980 and all three of them turned out quite well for democrats. Now, if you look at the Harvard Youth Poll from fall 2020, roughly 63% of that group said they would be voting. The authors compared that to the enthusiasm from 2008 for that age group. Obviously 63% didn't happen but 50% did and that was indeed comparable to 2008. In the Harvard youth poll just released a few days ago the number in that group who said they would be voting is 75%.
I really get the sense that something weird is happening.

By the way, that 66% turnout in 2020---underwhelming by most standards---is still the highest since 1900.

Murkowski won. This is what happens when you desperately want someone to run but haven't vetted them thoroughly. In this case, the GOP wanted to show its not all angry white people. Reminiscent of Alaska in the heady days of the Tea Party. The person they picked as the GOP candidate for Senator was so flawed the write in candidate Murkowski won.

It turns out that Debate JD is different from Podcast/Campaign Rally JD. Debate JD avoids the nutter right stuff...crazy cat ladies, non-menstruating women's roles. He still lies but does it in a slick perhaps sly manner so that people who haven't been paying attention to Podcast JD will not notice it...until they got to the J6 question. And if people were paying attention they would notice that he blamed the housing shortage on illegal immigration which is apparently at the bottom of any problem in the US.

I'm also shocked. Shocked I tell you that another scam might be in the wind. This morning there is an un-substantiated report (via American Muck-rakers) that Trump is said to have paid $100,000 to RFK's legal firm for 'services'. It is speculated by the timing, that this is payment to RFK/his firm for endorsing Trump. If true, this seems kinda cheap, even for Donald. Maybe to plump the deal, Trump also promised RFK a watch or three. Or maybe a nice hunk of ripe road-kill.
True or not, RFK is totally repulsive.

Well I sure hope so!. Polls going all over the place lately, and apparently not much enthusiasm from blacks, youth and latino. Tester seems toast, while Allred might pull it off. Love to hear you all's thoughts at this point.
