Stories of the election from my European vacation. Was in the hotel lobby in Spain on the day before the election. The lobby had CNN on one of its tvs. A man from New Zealand approached heard me and my friend talking and asked what we thought was going to happen. We declined to say but did we say voted two weeks ago. He seemed astounded by the fact we could do that and then wished us luck with the outcome.
After the election we were on a wine tasting tour and the guide hesitantly asked if she could ask something about the American election. Americans are scarce in the Bordeaux region of France in November and the one other set of American tourists she had the week before the election was outwardly pro Trump. They thought tariffs were a great idea. She pointed out that 6 years ago there was a Trump tariff on French wine and as a result wine brokers in the US stopped importing French wine. They appeared to be surprised to hear that. She was also impressed that we could vote in the presidential election a couple of weeks before the day. Said it makes sense to her to set up a system where everyone can vote when and where it worked best for them.
