In the age of celebrity, when that's the currency that matters to intellectually shallow people, achieving fame decoupled from talent is all you need for wealth.  You just have to look at much of the hip-hop world for examples.  Sports at least requires immense discipline and effort.

The media world still likes to cover deplorable behavior in politicians, remembering a past when exposure of corruption or scandal brought shame and ruin that ended political careers.  But it also provides car-wreck fascination and ratings viewers/readers.  So when the GOP became an entire party of wing nuts, immune to shame, they still got coverage and attention.  So the media got revenue in a challenging advertising environment, the bat-shit loons got elevated, and the right wing became ever more unhinged.

I’ve been inclined to say for some time that these commentators are marketing their schtick to overgrown middle schoolers (mostly males). Even Dear Son, who gets very troll-ish on occasion as a high-schooler, has a tendency not to “go there.”

Carlson pulled a real Tuckums today. He put up this photo of a transgender school teacher in Canada and, of course, went full metal douchenozzle.

Before you read on do you want to guess what the problem is with his "reporting"?

During his opening monologue, Carlson showed photos and video footage of a woodshop teacher wearing large prosthetic breasts while working at Oakville Trafalgar High School in Ontario. Carlson incorrectly identified the instructor as “Stephen Hanna.”

According to a statement released by the Halton District School Board, Stephen Hanna is not the person in the footage. Hanna is a different instructor at the school.

Because OF COURSE HE IS!

Here's the source of his crack(head) reporting.

Carlson claimed that he sourced the story from Quillette senior editor Jonathan Kay, who ran a newsletter about the Oakville Trafalgar High School teacher one day before Carlson’s segment. Kay sourced his reporting from Reduxx, an anti-trans blog.

A September 17 Reduxx follow-up article about the teacher cited a social media user who identified the person in the footage as Hanna, but clarified that “while Hanna is also an instructor at OTHS, he is not the individual in the viral images.”

It is currently unclear where Carlson’s team sourced the incorrect teacher’s name from. The name was circulating around far-right media prior to the segment, including the neo-Nazi blog Daily Stormer, right-wing blog PJ Media, and conspiracy theory website Gateway Pundit. The name was also circulating on 4chan’s white nationalist /pol/ message board. The Daily Wire has added an editor's note saying, "A previous version of this story identified the teacher by the wrong pre-transition name."

Other right-wing outlets that pushed the viral story without mentioning the name include Infowars, Libs of TikTok, and The Post Millennial.

Fox News also reposted Carlson’s segment on its website, which includes Hanna’s name 13 times.

I would just like to note that this non-story must have been catnip to Carlson. For a man-child who clearly never grew up and is still scarred by being abandoned by his mother, those monstrous boobages probably left him sobbing in the corner of his office for hours.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has suggested that President Joe Biden is responsible for damage to the Russian-owned Nord Stream gas pipelines, claiming that the president vowed to "blow up" the pipelines earlier this year.

Neither of the Nord Stream pipelines, which were designed to deliver natural gas from Russia to Germany, were operational when they experienced major leaks into the Baltic Sea on Monday. Leaders in Norway, Sweden and Denmark have all concluded that the leaks were likely the result of "sabotage" or another "deliberate" action, while seismologists have said that the leaks were preceded by explosions.

While the cause of the explosions and the damage to the pipelines has not yet been determined, some have suggested that Biden or Russian President Vladimir Putin could be responsible. During the Tuesday night broadcast of his show Tucker Carlson Tonight, the Fox News host dismissed the idea that Putin was behind the leaks before implying that it could be Biden.

"If you are Vladimir Putin you would have to be a suicidal moron to blow up your own energy pipeline—that's one thing you would never do," Carlson said. "Natural gas pipelines are the main source of your power and wealth. And most critically, your leverage over other countries."

It doesn't mean it'll go nuclear immediately but it does suggest there could be consequences. If we actually blew up the Nord Stream pipelines, why wouldn't Russia sever undersea internet cables? What would happen if they did that?

What would happen if banks in London couldn't communicate with banks in New York? Just that one piece of it, leaving aside its potential effects on our power grid. But let's just say the banks couldn't communicate would each other for one day. What would the economic effect of that be? It would cascade downward into your house. We could have an actual collapse. We could wind up very quickly in third world conditions. Those of the stakes.
